MYTH: "Incidents like the Parkland shooting demand gun control"
Deaths from mass shootings get all the headlines, but they are extremely rare compared to other violent crime, even now. There have been 1135 mass shooting deaths since 1966 (Washington Post). Inner city gang shootings will exceed that number every year, as do homicides committed by people who are not legally in the country. The ice.gov website enumerates 2038 homicides committed by illegal immigrants they deported in 2018 and a similar number in 2017.

Thus we see that gang enforcement and border control would stop more homicides every year than the total number of mass shooting victims since 1966.

The Douglas High shooting was a textbook case of failure of "the authorities" who want to confiscate your guns and their so-called policies. The authorities tell us: "See Something, Say Something". Niklaus Cruz had already been banned from the school due to his previous behavior. Local residents called the Broward Sheriffs to the shooter's home 45 times. No arrests, because the Broward County Sheriff chose to take money from the PROMISE program to divert teen offenders to counseling instead of arrests. Residents called the FBI twice. No arrest, even after Cruz posted a video saying he wants to be a school shooter. With no arrests, Cruz passed the background check to buy the murder weapon. So who dropped the ball on that? Not gun owners, who are being blamed for his crimes.

The authorities say the police will protect us. Yet the four Broward County deputies who were on the scene when Cruz started shooting kids stayed outside. Would it not have been better if SOMEONE in the school had at least a chance to stop the killing spree? Would YOU fight back if YOU had means to resist?

The Sheriff even ran to a CNN "Town Hall" event to blame the NRA for the murders his policies enabled and his deputies declined to stop. This sequence of real events would fail the smell test for a TV drama.

"Military-style weapons are designed for killing people. These weapons have no place in civilian use."
Washington Attorney General Bob Ferguson

Dr. Liz Raemont, whose 18-year-old son Will Kramer was seriously injured in the Mukilteo shooting, spending 17 days in the hospital, called it a "disgrace and insanity" that assault-style weapons are legal.
"They are weapons of choice for our country's mass-murderers. These guns are not used in self-defense."

"Nobody needs an AR-15 to hunt. Nobody needs a semi-automatic rifle to defend their home. But mass shooters NEED these weapons in order to murder as many people as efficiently as possible. And so nobody will miss them when they are illegal – except for the killers."

US Senator Chris Murphy D-Connecticut

"Americans across the nation are asking Congress to reinstate the federal ban on military-style assault weapons and high-capacity magazines. If we're going to put a stop to mass shootings and protect our children, we need to get these weapons of war off our streets."
US Senator Dianne Feinstein D-California

"Military-style assault rifles are the weapons of choice for mass murderers. There's just no reason why these guns, which were designed to kill as many people as quickly as possible, are sold to the public,"
US Senator Chris Murphy D-Connecticut

"Assault weapons and high-capacity magazines are deadly and dangerous weapons of war that belong on battlefields—not our streets. They have no purpose for self-defense or hunting, and no business being in our schools, churches and malls."
US Senator Richard Blumenthal D-Connecticut

Talking points:

  • Semiautomatic so-called "assault rifles" like the AR-15 are not "weapons of war". They are not used by the military. They look like the M16 and M4 rifles actually used by the military but they significantly can not fire more than one round per trigger pull. Many common bolt-action "deer rifles" that no one wants to ban are military surplus rifles that are actual "weapons of war".

Some were even used by Nazi and Japanese soldiers to shoot at Americans, but those are OK apparently. The rifle pictured above is a customized former Nazi K98k rifle. So the whole "weapons of war" label is misleading.
  • Semiautomatic rifles - of which rifles like the AR-15 are just one example - have been sold to and used by civilians for more than 100 years. Even the AR-15 itself has been sold to civilians for more than 50 years. Semiautomatic rifles were sold to and used by American civilians decades before they were adopted by the military, and American civilians have continued to use them for decades after they were abandoned by the military.
  • Semiautomatic rifles including the AR-15 are used for the same lawful purposes any other type of firearm is used for:
  • Semiautomatic rifles are NOT the "weapons of choice" for mass shootings. Semi-automatic rifles were only used in 25 of the previous 96 mass shootings. The AR-15 in particular, was only used in 6 of the past 96 mass shootings. The AR-15 is NOT Used in Most Mass Shootings – A List of the Past 96 Mass Shootings
  • AR-15s and semiautomatic rifles and rifles in general are rarely used in murders. According to FBI crime statistics Expanded Homicide Data Table 8 more murders are committed with knives, hands/fists/feet, and blunt objects than are committed with all rifles, including all semiautomatic rifles like the AR-15.

This is true. I opened it up. It links to a Northeastern University study stating plainly that there are fewer school shootings now than in the 90's.

Schools are safer than they were in the 90s, and school shootings are not more common than they used to be, researchers say

This is good stuff. Universities are the new church for the left, so this should be linked often in correspondence with the legislators.

This is true. I opened it up. It links to a Northeastern University study stating plainly that there are fewer school shootings now than in the 90's.

I wonder how to package and communicate this type of information to the public in a way that demonstrates they have been trolled by the gun-control side. That the fear they are feeling is to manipulate them, and they should instead be angry with them?

MYTH Gun laws will save lives
Perhaps. And other lives would be lost because of criminals who do not obey murder laws killing others who did obey gun laws. But what proportion of the last few years of homicides would be prevented by new gun laws? Last October, Washington Post ran an article counting and naming all 1135 Americans killed in mass shootings since 1966. That averages to 21 victims per year.
According to the ICE.gov website, criminals with "undocumented" status who were deported in the last few years committed about 2100 murders per year. That is 100 time the annual mass shooting average.

The 2018 class of deportees were convicted of, or had pending charges for 2038 murders, 2085 kidnappings, 50,000 assualts, 80,000 DUI's, 76,000 drug offenses, 12,600 burglaries, 23,000 obstruction of justice, 5562 robberies, and 5300 sexual assaults. The numbers are in table 1
https://www.ice.gov/doclib/about/offices/ero/pdf/eroFY2018Report.pdf

There is a similar list for 2017, 2016, ...

So we have established that people illegally here are responsible for around 100x the murders annually as mass shooters are.

Gangsters killing each other over drugs and turf are responsible for another 5000 gun homicides per year. That is 250 times the average mass shooting rate. Where are all those headlines? Why are we putting so much focus on what will make so little improvement in homicide rates?

Note also that most of the spree-shooters had major warning signs that were ignored. The Douglas High shooter for example was reported to the authorities 45 times. They chose not to arrest him because the county got money from the PROMISE program to try to steer him to counseling. No arrests .. he passed the background check. Are we to blame law abiding gun owners for a total failure of law enforcement to do their jobs?

Scedule has been updated through 4/1 maybe tomorrow they will get to 4/2. I think they are dragging this out to give us the least amount of time to prepare testimony. I am going to be off grid tomorrow through sunday. Keep checking for the 4/2 update.

From the OFF website:
Anti Gun Frauds. Get Ready.

03.27.19

As we told you previously, April 2 has been the day chosen for anti-gun bills in Oregon's Senate Judiciary Committee.

Until today, we have not been told which bills would be heard.

Today it was announced that on April 2 at 8 AM the Senate Judiciary Committee would be hearing SB 978.

The hearing will be in Room 50 in the basement of the Oregon Capitol Building.

SB 978 seems to be a very innocuous bill that gun owners should have no interest in, or concern over.

The summary of the bill says:

Directs Department of State Police to conduct study on reporting of attempted unlawful firearm transfers and present report on findings to interim committees of Legislative Assembly related to judiciary on or before September 15, 2020.

Who could argue with that?

But here is the problem.

All bills have a "relating clause." This bill's relating clause says "Relating to firearms." This means that every single word of the bill can be stripped out and replaced with completely different anti-gun language as long as that language relates to firearms.

(These fake bills are called "place holders.")

We believe the Oregon Democrats are playing "hide the ball" with gun confiscation bills.

While they are required to give advance notice of hearings on bills, they have almost no requirements to share information on "amendments" until, quite literally, the very last minute.

We think that could very well be happening with this bill.

Unless the Senate Judiciary Committee shares other bills they plan to hear (and they are running out of time to do that) it appears they will be holding a hearing on this bill and not allowing Oregonians to know what "amendments" they plan to introduce to make this an extreme anti-gun bill. Of course, the point of this would be to prevent you from knowing their plans so you would have no time to prepare arguments against them.

This is this the worst type of deceit.

If the Democrats decide to share what they will be trying to ram through on April 2nd we will let you know. But for now it seems they are determined to keep it secret so you cannot prepare a response.

If you can be at the Senate Judiciary Committee Hearing at 8 am on April 2nd, your presence would be incredibly important. You will have to be prepared to testify on changes to the bill that will have been kept secret from you until the last minute. But that is how the Democrats roll in Oregon now.

Please come. Please be ready. And please understand what an underhanded game the Oregon Democrats are playing.

Question is how many understand what's going on and more importantly, are willing to take the time and make the sacrifice to be there? My current plans are to indeed be there...

Edit: it seems highly likely that gut & stuff is their plan, since they only have one bill scheduled for that day.

It's not completely clear to me what testimony we should give? We need some guidance here from our 2A friendly Senators and or Reps. Does anybody know what the legislative term is for the gut and stuff procedure? I won't have internet today through Sunday. Hopefully we have some good suggestions by Monday morning and I will craft up my testimony then. Noon Monday is deadline for testimony. Maybe we should flood the Antis on the senate judiciary committee with emails?

I will be there during the morning hours April 2nd.

I can't make it in person, but we should all be flooding the Judiciary Committee with emails:

Public testimony before the committee will be limited to 2 minutes per person. If you would like to testify, please sign up outside Hearing Room 50 beginning at 7:30 AM. Individuals who do not wish to testify do not need to sign up. If you are unable to testify in person, please submit written testimony for the committee meeting record to [email protected].
