I have not read this entire thread.......but I find this subject silly on it's face. A craftsman with tools can make anything and "plastic" guns were debated to death when people like Glock started making them. The number of 3D printers in the world is dwarfed by the number of guns or metal milling machines. I bought and sold several CNC pantographs from NASA a few decades ago. They were a very interesting machine that I sold to a jewelry manufacturer In Brazil. They had a holder that you would mount a part in that traveled and duplicated the shape with a cutting tool on the other side that copied the part to a very small tolerance. It would cut steel, aluminum, gold, whatever material you set up in the cutting side. We had to get permission from the state department to sell them offshore but that was only because of where we bought them. This entire controversy is promoted and spawned by anti gun hysteria that as usual has no basis in logic or fact. The next thing they will want ts to start registering machinists that have the knowledge to build stuff.

I am not a fan of censorship....Be it :
Cave paintings...
Stone tablets...
Parchment and quill pens...
paintings ...
Books...
Records...
Radio...
T.V. ...
Internet files ...

When Someone says : "You can't have access to this information " or " You may not read this"...
It make me wonder what they are afraid of...or why they want to stifle my level of understanding.

Gun plans / blueprints / how to build it or modify it plans , etc...have been around almost as long as firearms have been here.
So the banning of just one system of plan delivery ...just seems ridiculous to me....not to forget to mention the abuse of free speech.
Anyone here remember the spate of:
How to convert your semi-auto into full auto books , and other various books of the Anarchist Cookbook , The Poor man's James Bond type , that made such a stir and hubbub in the 70's and 80's ....there was a huge push to ban the publishing and selling of books of those types ...at least where I lived at that time.
This seems no different....

Will 3D CAD files of gun plans be abused and used for nefarious purposes...Yes , of course.
Just like any work of man ...it can be put to good use or ill deeds.
But to stop the flow of information...just because someone might , use it for evil ...is wrong.

Besides...just how many guns are already out there...versus CD printers that are able to make a gun...?

They were talking on the radio up here about it and once again you have people who have no idea what they are talking about .spuuing a bunch of B.S.
And little BOBBY FIRGE .has no idea eather

He is out there saying it's just a way for criminal to get guns .GOST guns I geuss he doesn't know that 80% lowers have been around for years.

From my understanding, 3D printers start at around $1k. Any self respecting criminal can find a .357 revolver for less than $300. The revolver, even if clapped out will be good for 1000+ shots, reliably. The printed gun, single shot, may be good for 10rds. The AR lowers may be good for one magazine. They are not a replacement for a real firearm. The Liberator pistol, just as its predecessor in WWII is only good for possibly capturing a real gun from an invading force, or tyrannical regime. Otherwise, it is simply a novelty. Another nothing burger from the Libtard Left!!

As long as they have not outlawed 3/4" galvanized pipe, I can make a single shot 12G from a piece of pipe, a 2x4 and a 10 penny nail, in less than 20 minutes!!! I did it when I was 12 or so.

:s0014:

Part of me wants to send that link and FossCAD to Ferguson with a note saying "Dear A**hole, Genie's out of the bottle. F*** you very much, The Real World"...

He'd just start agitating for another war in Panama where FossCAD's server is. Let the Panamanians be.

In all seriousness, the existence of FossCAD beyond the reach any US state power shows what a waste their efforts are.

This really is just a ridiculous crusade on the part of the anti's. They claim this is all about 'undetectable' weapons, as if this would be the start of that idea. Good grief. All anyone has to do is look at any prison in this country or any other to see how easy it is to make a weapon, from a variety of materials, with little to no instruction, that is easily concealed and virtually undetectable. Heck, when we were teens, many years ago, we figured out how to make pipe bombs with PVC, black powder and cannon fuse - all things we could buy at the local sporting goods store - and, we had no instruction on how to do it. We just figured it out ourselves. And guess what, those would be undetectable, and far, far more destructive than any 3D printed gun.

This really is nothing more than a witch hunt against gun owners in an attempt to block them in any way from using the same resources (i.e., the internet) that the anti's use to attack our rights.

Fact is, the Obama administration attempted to use ITAR to block the release of this information, and that was complete BS, which is why they settled the lawsuit against Defense Distributed in the first place. This is a first amendment issue, and it was decided that the Obama administrations blockade of this information was a violation of the first amendment. I wonder what information the leftists would appreciate having blocked on the internet? Maybe it's time for us to pay them back with a little tit for tat? Just a thought considering that turnabout is fair play.

BTW - here is a link to a good article on the 3D gun debate from David French at the National Review. It does a good job of extracting the BS from this debate if you care to read, and share elsewhere if you like: 3D Printed Guns: Separating Truth from Fiction | National Review

I'll check those out later, thanks.

While I find the whole idea of this unconstitutional blocking the release of already available information ludicrous, I do think it's beneficial: It puts this information in more peoples hands. I know it did for me and I'm sure others are following suit, as it get more and more public attention. Years ago, when the govt first tried to block Defense Distributed from releasing the files, I downloaded every the files I could, even though I had no way to use them. I did it just because they didn't want me to have it, even though I had no way to use it.

I don't have a 3D printer and most likely never will, so I'll probably never use the downloaded files (but will download all new info for safe keeping). Being of an older hands on generation and not being a computer guy, I think this kind of material will suit me better:

Funny how the same people that fought to keep "The Anarchists Cookbook", which includes instructions on how to make ricin gas, from being published are the same ones clamoring to prevent these files from being published.

And honestly, if the government, the media and Hollywood had just kept their traps shut about this, most people, including many gun owners, probably wouldn't even know about it. But thanks to them, now EVERYONE knows. Best way to stop something you don't like? Apparently that's to put it on a pedestal, shine a spotlight on it, then tell everyone they can't have it. Silly little bastidges don't understand simple human nature, do they?

Exactly. I think they must have a very short attention span, as you'd have thought they would have learned from Las Vegas;
that even the thought of banning something will create a run on that item: Bump stocks sell out across US as ban looms after Las Vegas shooting
or Sandy Hook: Gun Sales Exploded In The Year After Newtown Shooting | HuffPost

This part of human nature has been know for a long time- "To forbid us anything is to make us have a mind for it." ― Michel de Montaigne (mid 1500's), even more recently, Isaac Asimov even stated "Any book worth banning is a book worth reading." This still holds true today, so unless they really want these files in the public's hands, this isn't the way to go about it.

Here's another one for your list -- it's an AR15 lower made out of scraps of plate aluminum and bolted together. It does sacrifice the bolt catch but it is bare bones simple.

Update reminder. It is available now. The Judge allowed Cody Wilson to "sell" his designs. He did that by slapping a low price tag on each file that you can just change to be whatever you wish. Pay what you want. AR-15 – DEFCAD

Cannot buy them if you're from CA, OR or WA.
There's that west coast tyranny again...

This is something that needs immediate attention and correction. We have an opportunity to balance our state legislatures and seat non socialist governors this November. To not do so, destroys our children's future. And ensures more physical measures will be necessary in the future to clear out the vermin...
