When I once asked that opinionated gasbag at the Washington Square Dick's what the future held for their black guns, he spouted off with a lecture opining that "nobody should have them." My takeaway from that encounter (and others I had with him when he was at Joe's in Cedar Hills) was that he should find something very, very different to do for a living.

In they years since, I've still attempted to do business there (wherever I might find .22 ammo to fuel the jones). But a perennially un-staffed gun counter with insultingly long delays on the phone and a torturous 110dB on-hold commercial jingle have inspired me to evict said Dickishness from my consciousness.

For whatever reasons, it seems I'm just one of many who's pretty much done with them.

Funny, I think I know this GasBag you speak of, and yea, he was one when I was at Joe's on Ceder Hills! Big Old guy with glasses? Or short funny looking troll who smelled like the bad end of a bong!!!

The only times I have even *passed through* has been when they were the closest entry into the local Retail Hell Dimension, and it was dumping rain and I wasn't up for the extra thirty yards' hike to the nearest alternate--headed off the approaching dweeb with "I'm just passing through, your company has made it perfectly clear you do not desire the business of people like me so accordingly I leave my dollars in somebody else more interested in my business like Big 5's cash register."

If I were the owner of a good gun store, one that actually supported the 2nd in all aspects, I would put a sign out front that said:

"Come on in, we're not Dicks, we support the 2nd amendment"

Very interesting, I never knew the politics behind Dick's Sporting Goods and the AR.

For certain you can't sustain a gun shop on hunters alone. Most of the so called "Fudd's" that I've met own 2-3 bolt rifles and maybe a 12 gauge. I don't rightly consider these guys "shooters" as much as just outdoorsmen. The hiking, camping, and tracking aspects are equal parts of the experience for an outdoorsman. A lot of these guys only shoot a couple times a year when they are sighting in. Shooters on the other hand, collect as many guns as they can, shoot any chance they get, and go through thousands of rounds a year. That should have been obvious to Dick's, but what do I know?

FWIW I've never bought any guns or accessories from Dick's. Their ammo selection is limited and expensive, IMO.

When I asked them about AR15s way back when at the Renton store I was told something along the lines of "we don't sell guns used to kill people". Anyway, I did buy a couple of rifles from them over the years at ridiculously low prices. I always thought it was pretty funny how they had a manager escort me to my car to give me my gun, you know, the one I just paid for, lol. As for their non-gun inventory, always seemed terribly overpriced compared to any other place I visited.

These days, now that I'm in Vancouver, I'm really groovin' on Fisherman's Marine & Outdoor. Decent reloading supplies at very fair prices, and a real nice Browning rifle at an excellent price. Funny, the one in Hayden Meadows is right next to Dick's too, I can tell which on has the empty parking lot.

I went there for some lures and line, got gouged, then never went back. When I absolutely have to have something, you can gouge me, but only once.

Anyone remember Abercrombie & Fitch? Eddie Bauer?
Both former hunting outfitters that went Full Yuppie Retard... Bauer retail outlets are cobwebs-in-the-back-of-mind long gone, but A&F somehow found a neww target audience to throw them a lifeline by aggressively marketing to obnoxious teeniedouches.

Don't look at me, when I was their age until my neck went beyond the biggest collars they offered I preferred Van Heusen... unfortunately, this also leaves me having to order 5.11's a size large and I STILL can't get the top button close enough to button even with TWO extenders.

No idea how Dick's stays in business. They were way down my list after the first visit to the local (Salem)
store, fell completely off after the AR ad debacle.

Compared to other great NW stores, I don't know why'd anyone would shop at Dicks for hunting or fishing gear? Even without any controversy, I really cannot imagine buying a gun from Dicks. I've never figured out what Dicks market niche is supposed to be, and from their generally empty parking lots, seems the general public hasn't either.

I liked G I Joes... Uh, that is, up until ten years before their demise when they turned yuppie and worthless. .

Joe's was a great place right up until the end. If they'd had groceries, it would have been total 1-stop shopping for me. They'd still be here if that leveraged buyout firm hadn't purchased them.
