Being about half liberal in PDX, I don't have many gun friends, so i thought I would share with some of you guys.

I picked up the 80% frame during black friday for a great deal, and thought I could put a 1911 together cheap and easy.... then I started looking up parts, manuals, tools, videos, etc.... wow. It was a little more work and money than I thought it would be, but the fitting really wasn't all that hard for a casual shooter.

I drew up the engravings and did them on a CNC mill. I know its not traditional, but its my work, and I dig it, so whatever. Kinda messed up my indication on the left slide release side of the frame, but that and the safety cover most of it up. I also wasn't 100% happy with my frame rail cuts, so I ended up spraying the frame, barrel, and a few small parts with KG gunkote in bright brass. The slide went out to Titanium gun for their full polish TiN coating, and oh my goodness, it's amazing, pics don't do it justice. I love how the front sight looks like a brass bead inside the black rear notch. Grips are from ebay, and match surprisingly well.

I've only put about 100 handloads through it, but it fed and ejected everything, and hit my target, so thats about all I can ask for. I'm planning on buying a Caspian frame or something nice to re-engrave and have Titanium gun do their full polish on that to match the slide, but its not a very high priority at the moment. just glad i got this done a month or so ago before things got crazy.

Nice work!

Pimpin. You have to do like Paul Harrell, and put on some chains, half a dozen rings, and an outlandish polyester suit to properly go with such a fine looking piece :D That's a BBQ gun taken to next level.

Seriously cool engraving. Good job!

If lower cost is the goal, building your own isn't the way. However, if the goal is to have something unique, personalized, and beautiful, building your own is the best way to go. I would say you have achieved and surpassed the latter. Nice work!

Some how, knowing you built all of it, makes it that much cooler then it already is! :D

Now you have the 1911 build bug, next up is a full Caspian frame and bald slide, then a 2011 series, then, then, then, then, then, then,...........................Add Infinite! :s0155:

Yup, it's a sickness!

Very nice. I would be afraid to shoot it for fear of getting it dirty or scratching it. It makes for great gun porn. Regardless, you did a great job and I hope you had fun making it.
