bic lighters bulk pac cheep as costco. Might be a buck a peice now, but when their matches or lighter runs out they are gold to them. Its the only way the sheep know how to make fire..

Don't buy things just to barter.
Buy more things you can use, and if you need, you can barter those items.

If there is never a SHTF event, you haven't wasted your money.

Any buddy stock up on old phone books? I could think of three things off the top of my head to use old phone books for 1.) TP
2.) Fire starter. 3.) Stuff it in wet boots to help dry them out.

Any other idea's?

yeah, phonebooks are cheap....but very bulky to store and I'm not sure how valuable they'll be. Still it won't hurt especially if you are prepping on a budget. Things like storing water and phonebooks are cheap or free- so that is a GREAT start.

Plus I don't think we'll have phonebooks delivered to our homes for very much longer....they will go the way of the newspaper...but more quickly I think

I have a manual/non electric coffee bean grinder and a french press. This way I can make coffee with no power.

How about small bottles of hand sanitizer (was this already mentioned)? I heard of guys using them as fire started/cooking aids.

Yeah someone here, bought a thing make little fire logs using newspaper, leaves and water

I would rather stock up on Costco TP.
Better for its intended use, and fires. Not good for boot drying though.
More useful if there is never a catastrophe. Old phone books will never get used if nothing happens.

True - but phone books are cheaper and more compact than Costco TP.

Maybe Costco TP for self, phone books for barter?
