Background check with a CHL

If you have a valid CHL and go to buy a handgun, does the dealer still need to send in the background check paperwork, or does the CHL cover that? I remember hearing someone mention that the CHL covered it, but I figured I should ask.

you still have to do the insta check. The only time the CHL helped you was the old waiting period avoidance.

Yep, when I was in my local gun store the other day some poor sap was delayed... then he pulled out his CHL and asked if that trumps the background check So if you want to avoid the background check, buy from a private party

Thanks for the help. I'm not trying to avoid the background check (the gov't has my info from plenty of my other activities), I was just wondering if I could skip a few minutes of paperwork.
