Don't know how that one works but some 556 guns use no buffer Fe brn-180, sig mcx, hk 416, lots of b&t, scar (all short stroke gas piston based on ar-180). Also foxtrot Mike has direct impingement bufferless.

You can put folding brace right on the back which makes them really small when folded and very comfortable and steady when unfolded. My brn-180 10.5" (.223 wylde) is about the same size as an mp5 8.8" when both have the brace folded. Makes for a nifty way to throw .556 gun in small pack. Also good for vehicle cuz you can shoot with stock folded if needed.

Speaking of cheek pistols... I do believe that was the original intent of the foam buffer tube covers from the 1990s for such AR15 based pistols.... and Thordsens Customs makes their own buffer tube covers that also can accept a 3d printed cheek riser/pad, and has 2 places on it for push button QD sling swivels for sling/slung shooting. Here is my example, 12" 6.5 Grendel retro C7A A1 fixed carry handle AR pistol with buffer tube cover and then with the 3d printed cheek riser that also fits M4 type stocks. Old photos.

edit. The tube cover does not adjust. It's locked in place ahead of the typical M4 style keyway with a piece and 2 tiny Allen key bolts.

IMHO nothing beats a blast can or linear comp to keep gas moving forward (kaw valley makes a good kx5 knockoff).
I have owned/built a few ,I prefer 7" barrels for 5.56/300bo , only had 2 in 9mm one 9"and one 4.5" with Midwest forward blast device .
The 9" was better all around for me ,no need for anything shorter can use my standard capacity 33 round 19x
