The US Constitution has only been amended a handful of time to take away citizen's rights. Arguably the most wide-reaching of these was the 18th Amendment (Prohibition). And we know how that experiment ended.

I do agree that the end goal is 100% eradication of all firearms from civilian hands. And I also agree that they will try to do this in steps, over time. Which is why it is important to oppose all gun control at every turn. People who hate guns are not going to simply retire or go away having banned high capacity magazines (for example). On the contrary, they will be invigorated to pursue more.

Re: Schools, they need to install/hire security. Banks, nightclubs, airports, all have security. If you go to a Seahawk game they will look in your purse and wand your nutsack, and everyone is an agreement this is a good idea. I think people's children are more important than banks and nightclubs. Here in Oregon, there is famously a lot of waste in state gov't. If the school district can find the money to install artificial turf surfaces on the football field, they can find the money to install security measures. Private high schools in urban areas have had security for years - no mass shootings.

And by the way, for all the convenience it has brought into our lives, the internet has without question, screwed a thousand things up. Foremost among these I think is empowering cowards who previously had no system of support.
