The website leads to the Newark Police Department site and they have a page on it, seems a little elaborate to be a fake.

The operative word on the website was "felons". If your tip leads to the arrest of a "felon" in possession of a firearm, you get $1000.

If a regular civilian (without a record) is nabbed carrying a firearm in a peaceful manner, even without a permit, they would not be guilty of a felony as long as they were not committing any other crime.

The cops will forfeit/seize the gun AND since the police department/DA does not charge them with a felony, the city of Newark doesn't have to pay up to the tipster.

And that is what I call a racket. It's Newark... what's new???

Anonymously? Calling an 800 number gives them the contact detail's of the number who is calling and txt gives them the cell number that can be traced back to the one that owns the number..

welll, if you REALLY wanted to go stealth, you can always call from a pay phone...... knowing you called from the phone at the bar on twelfth street won't help them FIND you, will it?

But how many will DO that, most will naively trust the claim of impenetrable anonymity. After all, we CAN trust the gummint, right?
