So yeah, AMMO-POCALYPSE.
With the panic buying in March due to the PLANDEMIC, 6 million supposed new gun owners & the transfer of power to a socialist administration....is anyone suprised its this bad?
I'm not. But, I am suprised by the scarcity. Even with the above issues, Bi-Mart seemed to continue to have stock every Friday at a reasonable price. Limiting 2 boxes per caliber per person. But a funny thing happend 2 weeks ago at my local store. No ammo stock. Then this week, I stopped by the store at 915 on Friday. 15 min after they opened. A sign on the door said limit one box per person. I make my way to sporting goods....and ITS ALL GONE!
The sign outside said stoked with 9mm/45apc/22lr/7mm/12guage.
So you mean to tell me in 15min all that was gone with a 1 box min?
To me this seems like this is gonna get way worse. I refuse to buy online with the forced shipping insurance and inflated prices.
Yeah, it's easily gone that quickly
If you had gone to Bimart at 8:45 instead of 9:15 you would have seen a line of up to 100 people waiting outside the door. BiMart has gotten very efficient at the sale of ammo on ammo day. From 9:AM to 9:30, No one is stocking They are either handing out ammo or running a register so that line flows quickly through the store. Nearly everyone knows which day of the week each BiMart gets their one weekly shipment of ammo and I'll bet dollars to donuts that you would see a lot of the same people at each location.
I imagine more than a few of them are flipping ammo here.

I just inventoried my ammo this past week; a project I had been meaning to do for months.

Over the last several years I bought a ton of Federal HST 124gr. & 147gr. 9mm whenever J&G Sales had it on sale for $23/50-round box, or when SGAmmo had it for $21/box.

Likewise I bought cases of M193 in 200-round battlepacks whenever it was $299/case, and cases of IWI 77gr. "Razorcore" (Sierra MatchKing) when it was $450/case.

I did the same thing with other calibers. Especially 5.45x39. I bought cases (2060 rounds) of Russian & Bulgarian 7N6 surplus when it was $240/case! That's only about .12/round! Back before the 7N6 ban they were almost giving the stuff away.

The point? Ammo was widely available and cheap for many years prior to early 2020. Whenever it went on sale if you weren't buying a case here and there for long-term storage I don't know what to tell you other than the old saw..."failing to plan is planning to fail".

But something good can come from your mistake: Now that you realize how much it sucks to be sitting there thinking "coulda shoulda woulda", make sure you're NOW thinking about having plenty of food, water, prescription meds, and other essentials stored away for lean times.

Otherwise, the day may come when you're going to be like 95+% of the population who is waiting and fighting in food lines after a natural disaster, economic catastrophe, or other "black swan" event.

In modern society it's human nature to think "All of the things I rely upon will always be readily available at the store whenever I need 'em." Learn from your lack of ammo that this isn't always true, and take steps now to ensure you're not in the same boat when something that's actually important - like food - is just as hard as ammo to come by.

There are ants in this world and there are grasshoppers. Don't be one of the grasshoppers.

I'll be leaving Washington, headed to Boise ID. When I get there in April I won't be whining about the lack of ammo either. If you failed to buy in the times of plenty then piss and moan when times are tough I have zero sympathy for you.
Then you will have to change your name from, "DB IS Here" to "DB Is Over There".

Dad was ahead of the curve. Maybe a prophet, maybe a visionary. Sensing big trouble ahead, he began stockpiling in the late 60s. He taught me. I began at age 21 and being single, hit it with every Boeing paycheck. In the intervening decades, I have bought some deals here and there, recently picking up a few boxes of 20 or 50 so as to have the latest defense rounds. But, as to 2020/2021, the powder, primer, bullet and brass shortages have affected me exactly zero.

Strike when the time is right, and for the past several decades, it has been. My dad also predicted a bloodbath at some point. Heaven help us.

As a reloader - I can continue loading with what I have for a while, but it does bother me that I couldn't buy bullets, powder, or primers in regular bulk quantities for regular (lower) prices, if I wanted to.

I don't expect the current situation to get better for a while, especially with the current administration.

I still find odds and ends here and there for reloading. I have enough, but I feel sorry for the kids that just turned 21 this last year. Out on their own and very little stock to be had.

No credit to the op? Lol no but seriously I was in a wierd spot. My company had me working in Cali for 2 yrs before Covid hit and I honestly had no way to stock up. Lived in Airbnb with no place to call home

I'm paying for it now.....but it's not all terrible. Learning a new skill (reloading) is awesome and even with 0.13 cent primers it's only .35 a round to reload the Grendel or a tiny bit cheaper for 5.56......which isn't great but not bad for the Grendel......

Got a house now(thanks grandma we will take great care of it). And doing the stock it up thing now.

I'm worried that this is still just the middle and not the peak of it..... thoughts?

I for one am thankful that the ammunition manufacturers come out with videos every week assuring us that they are busy making money as fast as possible and for us not to be concerned with not being able to find ammo on the shelves.

Hey Everyone. Just an old guy musing here about the [here we go again] ammo shortages. Like many of us this latest round of panic searching ain't my first rodeo. Back around 20 years ago my wifey and I were living way out in the boonies. I recall a similar ammo panic back then. I was able to stock up on sufficient ammo for all of our firesticks. We felt well prepared. The next ammo crisis for us was when we were living way north near the Canadian border. Found a way to restock ammo for all of the newer firesticks and I got back into reloading. Continuing wash, rinse, repeat pattern with each crisis. Was browsing through home ammo stock recently and rediscovered almost all of the ammo purchased nearly 20 years ago was still neatly stored in ammo boxes. I don't remember ever having our shooting curtailed during an ammo reduction. Same as now. We shoot a little less but are not ammo starved by any stretch of the imagination. I feel for the newbies just getting into our sport. Over the years we have been able to share boxes of ammo with beginners who had no clue where to find/make their own ammo. We still have enough for all the new firesticks bought over the years. I guess I am parroting what others have already said ... this crisis too will pass. Each of us will define how much is "enough" for our own lifestyles. When the current ammo situation is over stock up and use what you will knowing the next crisis is always just around the corner. Thanks all for listening. Off to the range later today to shoot a conservative amount of ammo. :)

Air guns are looking better and better.
Well, I have been wanting to build a tabletop railgun for some time now. I might skip the air and use magnetic fields.

Besides, I have a genuine curiosity about floating things in a magnetic field. Anything can be floated with enough field. Frogs have been floated in magnetic fields.

I hit a LGS on the way home from work maybe twice a week. In the last couple months I've seen most cartridges in stock at some point at normal ish prices. Same with primers. It's out there, you just have to look, and ask the counter guys.

That said, 143 gr ELDXs seem to be non existent. I'm down to 200 or so. I could switch bullets, but I don't want to.
