Lol that's funny I almost got you a bottle of a bullet burbon for Christmas.
I don't know if it is the same stuff lol .
But I will have to go get a bottle tomorrow.
Merry Christmas now you get a bottle of whiskey and a Rifle scope.

Lol good combo.if you ask me LOL

Lol here is the deal I'm not a big burbon / whiskey drinker .
But my cousin she is a whiskey snob.
So I got a lesson a year ago about drinking it .
Number one rule.if it is REALLY GOOD BURBON.
YOU DON'T MIX IT WITH ANYTHING EXCEPT WATER .
AND WHEN I SAY WATER I MEAN A LITTLE BIT OF WATER OR 2 SMALL ICE CUBES

I am of the train of thought that good bourbons and whiskies are made to the proof they are because after you add an ice cube or a splash of water...they are exactly the way they were intended to be drank.

And then there is cask strength :)

That Bill Murray pic reminds me of him from Groundhog day movie playing piano:

I recently found out that my mother in law likes to mix drinks with whiskey, now and then. I think it would be a great Christmas gift for her that she could enjoy all year. I do not know anything about whiskeys, other than I bought a bottle of Dry Fly Wheat Whiskey a while back. That and I know that it is made in barrels.... So a novice here wanting to get a good gift for someone.

Anyone have any good whiskey suggestions for a gift?
Crown Royal Vanilla is one of my favorites and I don't have to mix it with anything.

A little history. Early in the last century they ran ships across Lake Michigan from Chicago to St Joeseph or South Haven about a 90 run each way & used barrels of whiskey in the hold for ballast. ! round trip "aged" the whiskey aprox the same as letting it sit still for 7 years. I'd want to leave 1 barrel per year & let her ride all year.

Yep, some of the distilleries are experimenting with different advanced aging techniqes including putting barrels on ocean going vessels. Temp swings and agitation creating better exposure to oxygen have both been proven to advance aging of spirits. If I remember right one of the distilleries had the roof of one of their barrel storage buildings ripped off during Katrina. Due to other prorities it did not get repaired for quite awhile. The barrels sat exposed to the wind, rain, sun and constant temp swings for well over a year. When the contents were sampled they couldn't believe how fast the aging was taking place. I believe some of there product is purposely stored outdoors now.

Like a firearm, it depends on the mission....

Neat :
  • Basil Hayden
  • Woodford Reserve
  • Angel's Envy Rye

Special Neat {IF you can find them and / or afford to }:
  • William Larue Weller {any pre-2014 release }
  • Pappy {the 15 year was better than the 23 yr}
  • Willets Family Reserve {only available in KY recently}
Daily drinker / Go-to {in no particular order} and all under $35 :
  • Buffalo Trace
  • High West (Prairie is a blend of 4 bourbons)
  • Bulleit
  • Makers Mark
  • W. L. Weller
  • .... a dozen others
Manhattan / Old Fashioned :
  • All of the above from Daily .... +
  • Bulleit Rye
  • Basil Hayden
  • Knob Creek Rye 100 proof
Higher Proof (just let it sit in your hand warming for 5 mins 1st ):
  • George T. Stag (open it up a bit with an ice *chip*)
  • Noah's Mill
Scotch-
  • Oban
I disagree that mixing good stuff with anything is wrong per se. Good stuff is just that. Mixing corn syrup (coke, sprite, pepsi, 7-up etc) with the human body should just be avoided anyway....

Couple of honorable mentions IMO :
  • Gentelman Jack
  • EH Taylor Rye
  • Few Rye
  • ... a dozen others
Personal dis-likes :
  • Bookers bourbon
  • Blanton's was overpriced and unmemorable
  • Maple Hill (Oregon ) was fine but *way* overpriced
  • ... a dozen others
Happy Brown Season!
