@albin25 asked about these in another thread. I am interested in trying one out as well but would like to hear from those who have had successes with them. I am looking at this brand.

This guy seems to like them.

Now that I have my solar stuff ordered, I am going to refocus with saving money on propane. I had kept a 20lb tank at the cabin but the thieves took that during last break in. Since then I have been using one pound bottles. It's not bad for heating meals that heat quick. I wouldn't want to cook dry beans or any other dishes that require long cook times, using one pound bottles.

I also use the one pound bottles for heating my shower water. That uses more propane than I use for cooking.

During the cold months when I am running the wood stove all day, I cook and heat shower water on wood stove. During very warm months I can heat shower water outside with the sun. That leaves all the in-between months to find heating alternatives

I thought the thermal cooker could help with cooking foods that have long cook times.

I would also be interested in trying a solar oven for cooking and maybe heating shower water outside in cooler months.

What types of alternative sources have you used for heating food and water?
