All this talk about what Subies are and are not…

Back in the day, so that'd be the mid-80's, I was rocking one of these, while putting myself through college. What a fun car to drive.

I just don't see the rationale behind having a holstered pistol mounted in the vehicle. The odds of you actually being in the car when you need your gun are extremely low, and you increase risk from either holstering and unholstering constantly or by leaving the weapon in the vehicle, if you have to get out of the car for any reason you're now unarmed... Lots of downsides there. So, what's the upside?

After the blackhawk holster fiasco mine found a new life bolted under my dash as a secondary when up in the mountains. active retention and not seen easily while being able to be drawn fairly quickly

It's crossed my mind to possibly try out this idea.....the only reason being is that I'll still have my daily carry on me(9mm), then hard mounted in my pickup have a 44 mag or 10mm. I already have rifles mounted in the pickup which are easily accessible to me but I have had a few situations where that extra big boar pistol would have saved my ars and the dogs some stitches.

Who here would have thought you could get 64 replies on the question of "Where to put a gun in my Subaru Forester?"
There's like, only SIX places, if your talking mounting a holster type device? :s0114:

Are you guys carrying gun out in a iwb/owb holster then putting it in a car holster then back to an iwb /owb when you exit vehicle? Or carrying gun out of house in a bag or something?

Seems like a bad idea but it ain't none of my business.
Eh, when people elicit a response, it's inherently 'your business' to better understand the situation.

The democratic gun owner is a mystery wrapped in an enigma. On the one hand they recognize the value of being armed...at least at some level. But they're still so indoctrinated that they can't help but vote for their team...which is constantly trying to disarm them.

It doesn't make much sense.

But I tend to think these people are a quarter to half way of being red pilled. They're at least closer to it than the anti gun dems. There's at least more hope that these people will see the light than their vehemently antigun counterparts.
I grew up with parents who were almost Socialist they were so far left. Yet Dad had guns before I cam along. Avid hunter and ALWAYS a gun around the home for protection. He stuck with the same party to the bitter, and I do mean bitter end. What changed me was when I would listen to parents constantly angry over the things their party was doing to them. When I would bring up the things they were complaining about were done by the people they voted for they would get MAD! I sure made me see the light. So some never will change but, some stop drinking the koolaid at some point. I was old enough to vote when Regan won 49 states. People had finally felt enough pain. Maybe it will happen again. One thing one party is great at is causing those who vote for them a LOT of pain.

Can't speak for all but I do this occasionally. If I am going to a place I can not carry past the door I do not leave without a gun. So at some point I have to leave the gun in the vehicle. Now I do not get out the car and pull the gun out to secure it for someone to see. I do keep it hidden. Often if I am going to a place I know I have to not carry, the one I am caring is much more compact for just this reason. Some times only the always carry pocket gun. Not my first choice if I need a gun but, I have long been in the camp that any gun beats the better gun I do not have with me if I need a gun. Again though I have never told others that the way I do it is the be all to end all. How others choose to handle this is certainly their choice.

They are one of several cars that have a GREAT reputation for being long lasting. Wife and I had looked at one a few times when car shopping but price on the used kept us from buying one. They certainly hold value for a reason.

A LOT of gun owners will not carry at all. I know many who own at least one gun for home. Never carry. They say the same thing. They seen no upside. I have always shrugged and said it is their choice. Most will go their entire life and never have to shoot anyone. So those who choose to not have a gun at home almost none ever regret that choice. So to each his own.

If you are considering one of those (little Console Safes) mentioned, know that their locks are fiddly and are just thin sheet metal boxes.
I would look at these safes with a simplex lock (NOT fiddly) and thicker material.
