re-cut my 'homemade' neck flaring die to a less aggressive angle

What was your starting material to make that? Any issues with neck tension, or is the flared area pretty short, compared to the seated part of the bullet?

What was your starting material to make that?

This started out as a 9mm case expander die.

This all started due to my using cast lead bullets in my .30-30 WInchesters and the need to flare the case mouths to keep from shaving the bullets during seating.

Well, having many die parts I figured I could easily make a neck flaring die out of a 9mm expander die in my lathe and it came out well and works great!

All it needs to do is to create a slight neck flare to allow the bullet to enter the case smoothly.

Sized, deprimed & tumbled a bunch of .30-30 today and re-cut my 'homemade' neck flaring die to a less aggressive angle - works much better!

Ordered a Redding bullet seater die for .45, just seats, no crimp. Hopefully that's the solution...

Got primers and shotgun lee setup at a garage sell
And tried my hardest to make harbor freight powder coat work. Let me tell you it sucks!

Finished up loading 100 9mm using HSM 124gn plated bullets, 5.0 gns unique, and win sp primers. My 92FS is now happy.

It always surprises me how well ammo and primers last, if stored well. We've still got some Stingers from the 80's that run just fine. ( Part of an estate that my shooting partner was given )

I forgot to add that when I do get good shootable rounds I get alot jams and hang ups ... And I'm,using 9mm dies ... I'll just stick to factory 9mm for now .. Maby when I get my dillon 650 ill try my hand at 9mm again .. But for now I'll Just stick with 30-30,308,30-06,357 and 38sp

Perhaps you need to do the plunk test for your 9mm ammo?

This is not a 100% answer. Also check, feed ramps, mag lips, the loads themself....anyway.....you get the picture.

Don't comprehend the 9mm is hard to load thing. I think it's the easiest caliber I load for.

My favorite/easiest......is loading for the .38 special. The rim and the long case length makes handling much easier, IMHO. Besides....it was the first cartridge that I learned to reload.

I did load 1,000 .223 yesterday afternoon.

Working on a large lot of .45 ACP. Guessing at numbers until it's all gauged and counted in trays, but ~ 750 of the cast Lee 234 grain tc polycoated, ~ 300x 230 grain badman, and 400 x 200 grain xtreme plated rn. AA2 powder, 4.7 for all of them. The 200 grain ones will be nice light target loads, hopefully for revolver practice.

Still have most of the 200 grain plated to do, but taking a break. That Redding bullet seater ( no crimp) die is the bee's knees! eliminated 99% of the shaving on the polycoats, and the bullets center much better, no more case bulge from seating it at an angle. Very pleased.

Used those really old bubblegum primers that I showed a couple post back.
4.7 gr of alliant pistol powder bullseye
And hornady 185gr hollow points

Haha just wait till Wednesday or Thursday when my lee .308 sizing die makes it in. Than I'll be sizing my powder coated blackout ammo so I can load that this weekend hopefully.

Yep - much better after I re-cut the taper.
