Can't say about Seattle but Portland has:

1. crap weather
2. rude poeple with zero common sense
3. homeless everywhere and they have more rights than taxpayers
4. police who are told not to do their jobs by locals and their bosses
5. drugs everywhere
6. local gov who spends millions on reducing the # of parking spaces and traffic lanes while # of cars has tripled
7. around 10-20 shootings per week (not kidding)
8. Sky high taxes and water bills
9. Residents who want to get in everyone's business and tell them what they should be doing
10. Bad schools
11. Horrible traffic
12. Residents that hate cars and want everyone to ride the bus or bicycle in the rain like them

And all that is before even talking about locals' views on guns or gun laws. Can't wait to get out of this H hole.
Sounds just like Seattle!

Having just moved from NV to Idaho, heres my warning.

LV is full of 3 Million, mostly ex-Californians who are ruining NV.
The new Gov has made RED FLAG LAW, person to person used transfer illegal, just to name a few.

There are 17 counties in Nevada.
Clark (LV) and Washoe (Reno) rule the roost and the other 15 are just along for the ride. The sheer number of Californians moving there has ruined Nevada. housing is going through the roof, the state can not keep up with infrastructure.

If you 2A rights mean anything to you, Nevada is the wrong place.

I hope like the people there. The think, behave and have a different culture and values. Maybe if you are remote you will be isolated from all of that.

Excellent report of the results of the voting behavior of the City of Portland residents. Just shows how rational they are and how poor their critical thinking is. These are symptoms of personality and or emotional disorder; not really insightful.

Very depressing to think of how the country is changing.

I'm with Andy and Stomper. Moving ain't in the cards for me.

For the time being, my mission is to, as best I can, fly under the Gov't radar. Stock up. Keep to myself. Avoid crowds.

I have no clear info on where all this is going, though I have some ideas. I hope I'm wrong, but just in case…

I don't know if it's changed but I snowbird'd in lake havasu Arizona for a few years about eight years ago and I thought it was great felt free, two stroke quads going down the highway with lic plates, lots of place to shoot out in the desert with people doing so , and the police saw me doing things on the motorcycle that would've had me in handcuffs here in Portland and all I got was a thumbs up .

The Washington state gun agenda was one of the major factors that prompted me to leave the state. There was my old job, the weather and Yakima in general which is a hard place to love too but firearms laws was one of the top factors.

This assault on freedom is ridiculous. I can't take it anymore. And we've already lost this battle here. AWB, high capacity magazines, background checks for ammo purchases are next.

Everyday I have to research and wonder if I'm in danger of going to prison just for possessing something.....

Here's how I look at it. You're on the Titanic and it's just hit an iceberg. Are you going to stick around, bail water, wait for some rescue you know isn't arriving in time? Plead with the ocean to not devour the ship? Or are you going to get in line to be on that life raft?

Another question. Who do you want as the prosecutor or your jury pool if you have to use your gun and face a potential prosecution and end up before a Jury? You want a prosecutor from Olympia? A jury from King County? Or somewhere in a free state where people respect the right of self defense?

Another question. Where do you want long term roots, to make friends, meet people, raise a family, have kids go to school and learn and be educated? Maybe moot for some settled folks but for me it was very relevant.

After years of wishing, I finally pulled the trigger on a move OP and I'm telling you the stress relief and breath of fresh air is life changing in a positive way. It was a hard, expensive and time consuming move but I abandoned that sinking ship called Washington and every day I wake up with a smile...

I lived there for 8 years and heard all the tough talk about taking the state back, fighting, etc. I protested, I rallied, I handed our fliers, put up yard signs, went door to door, voted, was fairly active. Apparently 25% of Washington voters love anti-gun policies and socialism, and another 50% of Washington voters are too stupid to know or too lazy to care.

Now, in a FREE state, I can buy and carry guns without anyones' permission! And I've been buying guns like a free man, carrying a gun like a free man, and just enjoying the happy people in this state.

In addition to the 2A nonsense in WA, there were other factors. The state is an disgrace and I was embarrassed to admit living there under that corrupt dishonest leadership. The apathetic voter pool and the "Seattle Freeze" attitude was too much to bear. Seemed most people were rude or lefists. The difference here is night and day. Folks are nice and friendly, people seem happier, etc.

Anyway, I agreed with your assessment and I did exactly what you're discussing in fleeing the sinking ship.

The title of the thread isn't wrong, but as far as bump stocks go, you'd be in the same boat in Idaho or anywhere else. Fed law, as wrongly as it was implemented.

That's actually debatable. I have ZERO interest in bump stocks. I never held one, seen one in person, or owned one. However, in 2014, Idaho passed a law that stiff arms the Feds from passing/enforcing any future federal gun control in Idaho. It might very well be illegal, but I'm not sure what if anything the Feds or state authorities will do about it in Idaho. THIS IS NOT LEGAL ADVICE, just a conversation. If you want legal advice on this go hire a lawyer.

I will be moving to MT in a few months, so yeah. Besides being stationed with USAEUR in Germany, I spent my whole life living in western WA. It's a whole lot different in the last decade or two. Hunting and fishing regulations and opportunities have gotten bad, too.
We're headed to MT in 4 years. Has more to do with population density than anything else.

In this thread, and elsewhere, folks who are staying basically acknowledge they're being driven underground and in hiding. I must ask, what good is a right that cannot be exercised out of fear? And soon, if not already, you'll be in possession of something that is illegal. Unless you divest yourself of guns every time a new law passes...

Kudos for you for staying and fighting. In my 8 years there I saw very little of what I would call fighting. I saw a lot of hand wringing and tough talk.

Just wondering what the plan is when your leftist neighbors call the cops to red flag you and 10 leftist gun seizing cops no knock raid you at 3am on Tuesday night? What's the game plan? Genuine question.

You either surrender, are disarmed, and go bankrupt fighting for your rights back. Or you go down in a forgotten blaze of glory ...

Then what?

Seems to me the easier less expensive choice is to pack up and move. Call it giving up if you will. But it's exactly what my forefathers did when they abandoned Europe and made a better life in America. I wouldn't call that running away. I'd call it a better decision for them and their lineage. Looking back at history, those who stayed (and their heirs) were far worse off than those who ventured to America.

WA is looking less and less like the place I'll retire. Proposed gun laws are getting more ridiculous by the minute, but it's the taxes that will ultimately make me move. My current property taxes are close to a house payment in some states.
Growing up, I couldn't fathom why anyone would want to live in ID or MT. Now that looks more like the place to be!

Oh yea, WA soaked me in property taxes. I paid TWICE what I paid on a nearly identical house and lot on my home in Tennessee. And when I sold my home in Washington, I paid WA a tax that is nearly about twice as much as the value of my vehicle! Washington got more than my realtor! In a TAX to sell my house. :s0054::s0054::s0054::s0054::s0054:

Had a relative visit from AZ and in addition to his surprise to many of the things listed above, he said why are there potholes everywhere, don't they fix their roads? The frank answer is no, they don't. We've lost two tires and one wheel in the last two years due to potholes (and I am constantly on the lookout for them). But they have money and time to reduce 4 lane roads to two, with double wide turn lanes in the middle. It makes no sense, other than to purposely make it hard to drive.

The other thing he was surprised at was in a restaurant there are no coffee creamers at the table, and no straws at fast food drive throughs. I told him it's illegal for them to give u straws, plates, utensils, or plastic creamers unless u specifically ask for it (Unless it's for the homeless and in that case it is legal). This also applies to catering and events etc.

Another annoying thing is that they previously banned plastic bags at any store so it was paper bags only. But now you have to pay for any paper bag you use.

You have a cadre of poeple who are in position to pass law after law to force poeple to live how they think. And much of it makes zero common sense and just makes everything harder.

How many thousands of people have to go back to the fast food place to ask for a straw for example, which slows everyone else down etc. (they can't have straws out in dispensers, you have to get back in line and specifically Ask for one).

Ever drive around suburbs near 6th Street in Tacoma? It's like a ancient road before grading and leveling or maintenance was invented. I don't know HOW those people can put up with it. Having sat in my share of highways turned into parking lots, I'm fully convinced the wisdom of the legislature and leadership purposefully frustrates drivers as a goal to reduce driving; punishment to car owners if you will. It's by design to reduce "carbon footprint" nonsense. Poorly designed, poorly maintained roads.

In fairness, about the ONLY thing I can get behind is a reduction of plastic single use waste. Plastic bags, straws, sytrofoam plates, etc. all goes right into our water ways and oceans or dumps and does actual tangible harm to humans and animals and marine life. I FULLY support the reduction and ultimate elimination of these single-use products. It's not too hard to plan ahead and bring reusable cotton bags, that you wash with your normal load of laundry from time to time. I digress.

The reality is that we are a MINORITY. This country is about going with the majority. It sucks, but thats the deal that we've been dealt.
