I know that a .270 wsm seems like extreme over kill. I have a philosophy about shooting small varmits with large calibers. If you can hit a sage rat at 300-500 yards at will then you will never never never miss a large animal at those same ranges since I have been doing this I routinly kill Coyotes and Deer at those ranges. So my gun of choise has been my .270wsm howa with a burris fulfield II full aluminum beaded stock and bipod or my 25-06 ruger #1.:s0155:
