Finally starting the M1 Garand stock with Tung Oil. So far I like the color. Nice and deep. Should be done in a few days, then a few weeks of drying.

Looks super nice. A big old battle stick. Some guy said it was the finest battle weapon ever invented. He probably died in a "car crash"

I have never used tung oil and never use steel wool. Steel wool can leave pieces in the pores of the wood. I used a lot of Tru-oil and switched to Minwax wipe-on poly. I wet-sand with thinned minwax to fill the pores and add additional coats of finish until I'm happy with the results. Be careful sanding that you don't make metal proud and I only add a little finish in the checkering.
