In that case I would have held my pistol but at waist level. If fired at (and not doa) I would have returned fire.. Otherwise I would have backed down (and given enough time) tried to record him via phone and just let the person yell at me and wave his pistol around acting like a tough guy and immediately after I would have called the police. Ive watched a friend go through the court system when he had a wreckless endangerment and assault with a deadly weapon thrown at him by the state. Damn near bankrupted him.
Its hard to say what one would do.. If I had a man pointing a firearm right at my face and had my woman or kids in the vehicle Id sure as hell reverse as hard/fast as I could so if he did fire it would be towards me and not the kids in the back.
If we couldn't talk our way out and he kept pointing his pistol at me after I dialed 911 then yeah.. I think I would have fired. Its my life and I would have felt threatened, end of story.
Just because you get a little pissed off while driving doesn't mean you can pull a firearm on someone its a threat on the other persons life, period... Even if he mistakenly cut you off or didn't let you into his merging lane. Not worth it.
I run into more road ragers than most would care to with my business as a technician.
I let them have their way and possibly trade hand gestures and if need be report them.
Thats really all one can do. That and hope they wrap themselves around a telephone pole.
I do on occasion yell "you're going to get someone killed driving like that!" But usually only when I can get within earshot.
