Talon grip idea.

I have been debating on picking up some talon grips for my xdm and my xds. I have heard nothing but great things about these grips the only reason I am hesitant is because I didn't think things all the way though when purchasing these 2 fire arms.

I got the both in fde with black slides. Personally I love both weapons and love the color combo of each. My issue with the talon grips is that the cover a good chunck of the grip. My idea is to get some talon grips and use a scalpel to cut lines out so the grip sits into the groves exposing the fde color a little more. Something similar to the picture. Any idea as to how the did this?

The grips peel and stick adhesive needs as much clean surface area as possible, otherwise they tend to shift and fall off.
