Not sure where this is. Click to embiggen. Architecture says Spanish/Latin America? Maybe not?

Katshki Pillar in western Georgia country, apparently is a famous place.

Something I'd like to do. Make bridge a drawbridge and bam, natural defense.

For all these, they're most vulnerable to earthquakes, and airborne assaults simply due to their prominence.

Unless you have a viable farm and rainwater up there the attacker need only starve you out. They'd pull up some couches and surround the bottom of the cliff while holding barbecues.

The monastery looks like it has a large vegetables/fruits garden, and possibly a herd of goats or sheep. The Katshki Pillar, it looks like just a look-out connected to the property below one of its faces. Might also be a rain collection unit too.
The coastal one clearly could have fruit/nut trees, a much smaller vegetable garden, and more seafood from the waters nearby.

LOL
Can you imagine getting to the bottom of all those stairs and then remembering that you left the car keys back at the top?

And mortars/artillery, and drones, and shooting from a higher position.

A better place IMO:

Whittier, Alaska

Remote

Accessible by one road only by a tunnel.

Bombproof (WWII era) building.

Tunnel between school and residence

Yeah... wait until thousands of people brave the Canadian frontier illegally to get there
These rock pillars are more accessible.. and yeah, we could apply what Whittier does to localities that allows it.

Actually.
Don't the Military have serious bunker buster bombs that would in theory make short work of that WW2 building and the tunnels?

What I'm saying is that.. having the literal high ground is more of a benefit than a detriment for the defenders, at least until there's aerial attacks and long range artillery, but even dispersed and underground, still subject to bunker busters and hyperbaric explosives which is quite dangerous.. and lets not forget... the issue of underground radioactivity (radon gas) which is said to be the 2nd leading cause of lung cancer behind smoking

Yes, if you have those kinds ordinance and the delivery systems for them, then being on top of a pillar won't help you any, you would be even more vulnerable.

This is where the "fighter jets and bombs" that govs have come into play.
