...until it rains.I would prefer to cook over a fire if possible. Not having to carry in stoves would be great.
rain, snow, sleet. As long as its not bone dry it will be ok....until it rains.

Welcome to the great Pacific "Northwet"
From what I have experienced so far. It is no where near as wet as I was promised dammit.
well I did move here in May. So I have been through one "season". Seriously, not as rainy as I was promised.wait till hunting season.

Rest assured you wont be cooking over a fire in the rain much around here. The coast range is by scientific definition literally a true "rain forest"
Can I come hunting with youIn addition to what you wear, 2 good knives and a knife sharpener, rubber gloves, and a folding saw is really helpful. Animal processing, especially skinning, does a number on the edge. And, the animal fat sticks to them and can be difficult to remove without hot water. I can tell you cutting the breastbone makes things much easier. I do my hunting east of the cascades because I like bigger deer or in Montana at my dad's place when I can plan ahead for the license. If your under 30 like my oldest son, a beard is a must.
Warning, animal processing visual below

If you dont watch seasons 5-6 on netflix tonight I will be most displeased with you.
Well I finished season 5.
Now I'm jonesing to get hunting worse then I was.
It's a great series, I'm glad I started watching it. Were seasons 1-4 as goood?[/QUOTE]
No idea. I only saw 5 and 6 on netflix. I dont have cable.
I am somewhat in the same boat as you but I am lucky I have family close by that hunts.Already started scouting in a couple of places along the coastal range. I don't expect anyone to give away their hunting spots or anything like that. I am just really looking forward to my first hunting season and wanted to share with somebody as my wife doesn't really share my hunting passion.
Kinda what I am doing. Going turkey hunting to see what is out there.I took up grouse hunting last couple years because I always see them scouting for deer season. Great way to go about it all, pretty much spend all my time in the woods between Sept thru elk season.
Lucky bastard.I am somewhat in the same boat as you but I am lucky I have family close by that hunts.
Now you are just bubbleguming teasing me.Yup. Plus they can hunt on the ranch they work at. 800+ acres by the crooked river.
