That is so fricken' close! -- A total of only 15K votes out of 1.35 million.

One can only hope that a bunch of (wait until the last minute) rural voters waited until this week to mail in their ballots, as dropping them off at the collection boxes was too inaccessible.

I'm still expecting the worst, but hoping for the best. There's still (an estimated)750K ballots yet to be counted

I run a Facebook group with 6000+ members. I guarantee you that for the next 12 months we will be inundated with whining from people are just waking up to what's going on, and who refused to lift a finger to benefit themselves and the gun community. I daily deal with people who gripe that "it's no use", "it's all rigged", "the [NRA/OFF/GOA/etc] are working against us", and the ever present "solution" to every issue "Shall not be infringed!!!" Then those very same people will tell you that they didn't bother to vote because "it's no use", "it's all rigged", "the [NRA/OFF/GOA/etc] are working against us", and "Shall not be infringed". Less than half of gun owners generally bother to vote.

So I'm done. I'm done listening to complaints. The first thing I'm going to ask you, as a gun owner, is "Did you vote?" And if you didn't then just shut your mouth. You don't have a voice in my presence.

Many on the net and in person get over the top mad at me for this. When I say gun owners do this to themselves. Even on this site I see it time and again. Gun owners who admit, some proudly, that they voted for the mess they now live in. If you do not vote or throw your vote away you voted for the winner. Until most gun owners figure this out they will keep getting just what they deserve, hope they like it.

Yeah... There ought to be around 400K total votes (based upon 70% turnout) in Multnomah. Only 225K have been turned in so far.

At a 75% clip that's another 130K votes for the the 'yeahs', that's a lot to overcome.

Holy crap, I feel like I'm Karl Rove over here spouting off about damn Cuyahoga county(OH). I don't want to admit it's over, but deep down I know it is.

This is like watching a last second FG to lose a football game. So damn close.

Any thoughts on Measure 114 and concealed carry in vehicles? Let's say you have a CHL and pre-ban magazine, section 5(c)(E) seems to suggest that you won't be able to carry the magazine in the gun regardless of those two preconditions. This is because section 5(a) and (b) are conditioned by 5(c) which states: "While transporting any large-capacity magazines in a vehicle to one of the locations authorized in paragraphs (c)(A) to (D) of this subsection, the large-capacity magazine is not inserted into the firearm and is locked in a separate container."

(5) As of the effective date of this 2022 Act, it shall be an affirmative defense, as provided in ORS 166.055, to the unlawful possession, use and transfer of a large-capacity magazine in this state by any person, provided that:
(a) The large-capacity magazine was owned by the person before the effective date of this 2022 Act and maintained in the person's control or possession; or
(b) The possession of a large-capacity magazine was obtained by a person who, on or after the effective date of this section, acquired possession of the large-capacity magazine by operation of law upon the death of a former owner who was in legal possession of the large-capacity magazine; and
(c) In addition to either (a) or (b) of this subsection the owner has not maintained the large-capacity magazine in a manner other than:
(A) On property owned or immediately controlled by the registered owner;
(B) On the premises of a gun dealer or gunsmith licensed under 18 U.S.C. 923 for the purpose of lawful service or repair; (C) While engaging in the legal use of the large-capacity magazine, at a public or private shooting range or shooting gallery
or for recreational activities such as hunting, to the extent permitted under state law; or
(D) While participating in firearms competition or exhibition, display or educational project about firearms sponsored,
conducted by, approved or under the auspices of a law enforcement agency or a national or state-recognized entity that fosters proficiency in firearms use or promotes firearms education; and
(E) While transporting any large-capacity magazines in a vehicle to one of the locations authorized in paragraphs (c)(A) to (D) of this subsection, the large-capacity magazine is not inserted into the firearm and is locked in a separate container.

I live in Multnomah County. I don't talk or associate with a lot of people but I personally know at least 10 people that voted No on 114. By the percentages, it's scary to think how many people voted Yes per each of our No votes.

Do people really not get what this does? I mean I think people just want "gun safety" and truly didn't read the meat and potatoes and math out how it will affect them or people they know.

Also... did they think about the real costs to implement this? Oh that's right we grow money on trees here in Multnomah County...so no.

Unfortunately it's possible they did consider the implementation and voted yes because they concluded it would be equivalent to defunding police since they will now have to waste time on this BS. If they don't plan to buy guns, or plan to buy stolen/straw purchased ones through their connections there's no reason they would consider it to affect them.

I am not sure such voters make the connection between "gun violence" and "defunding police".

They see the dozen or so activists marching for the cameras on TV/internet, and think they need to vote for that measure because their "leaders" say it is needed. So they do.

I think that is a lot of it. Those that don't own, or plan to own a firearm could care less. The implications and fallout have no impact on their lives and if the republicans are against it.... for many it becomes a "screw you" vote in support. The constitution, legal and moral issues play no part in the decision making process.

Toss in the knee jerker emotional voters and it really is suprising it's not more of a landslide passage. (updated to 14k vote margin)

I'll hold out hope that Oregon hasn't become a total wastage... because I must... but it ain't lookin too great for either 114 or maxipads.

The 47.5% is the percentage of turnout of registered voters in Oregon(barely under 3 million).

Expected turnout is 70% of the registered voters --Based on the last 5 midterm election turnouts that have averaged around that number.
There's a chance that the turnout could be greater than that average this time around.

Based on that 70% (turnout) average, about 2/3rds(or 65%) of the expected vote has been counted.

Truth be told, since Oregon now allows mailed-in ballots to be postmarked all the way up to election day(vs. all ballots having to be received by election day in the past); those that were mailed on Mon./Tues. won't come in until later this week. So, we won't know the true final tally for some time.

This is a great point. In the only Vote No on M114 commercial I heard, it was focused on the fact that M114 will degrade LE agencies. If you are a cop hater ,many in Multnomah County are these days, you might vote yes to "defund" police.
