I love how all the right wingers go on and on about how the protesters should have their permits and permissions from the government and police before they go and have their protest. Do you all really believe this? Or is it because Lars Larson says so?
Exercise of rights isnt supposed to be convenient. These are NOT just people camping in a park, this is a protest... American citizens demanding a redress of grievances. A right guaranteed by OUR Constitution!
How can you protest if you do not defy authority?
Not that I can expect a conservative to understand such struggles... but where would the Civil Rights Movement be if not for open defiance of the law? You would all be working for slave wages in horrible conditions without any benefits or protections if thousands of hadnt stuck their necks out for you. American citizens were beaten and killed in the streets, had families killed in the name of workers rights. Yeah, thats right... every benefit you enjoy at work was given to you by SOCIALISTS and UNION MEMBERS! Back in the day, they were openly attacked by police, and private thugs hired by 'job creators'.
Everything that makes America great had to be fought for... authority had to be defied... protests had to be waged... people had to be inconvenienced!
The very freedoms that you have via the Constitution were earned through protest & defiance... They didnt ask permission... they did what they had to do to effect change.
YOU may not agree with their message or means, but the occupy protesters are exercising their FIRST AMENDMENT FREEDOMS.
That being said. I agree with them, I do think that it is time that the movement evolve past the park... evolve or die. There are so many other directions this can go.
Job Creators? The 1%? Give me a break. These people need to buck up and pay more. They wouldnt have made it to where they are without the rest of us, or the government, the 'commons', etc.
THEY are the welfare queens... Millions and billions in tax breaks, government subsidies while making record breaking profits, tax-payer funded bailouts! And you guys complain about some poor bastard getting a few hundred dollars in food stamps each month? Unemployment? Cheap rent? COME ON!!!!! Do you know how much you have to make to qualify for that stuff? A family of four cannot make more than $2500 GROSS/month... Sure, you can get by. Feed your kids bubblegumty foor, go to clothing swaps, not have any recreation. Yeah, and thats if you are lucky to make $15/hr. What about the millions of Americans who can only get a minimum wage job?
The days of your Grandad are gone. Very rarely do you start at the bottom of a company and work your way up. One wage earner cannot raise a family, buy a house, have a decent car and save for retirement/have a pension anymore. You make minimum wage? Maybe in 10 years youll make $12/hr if the company even offers that. Work your way up to a manager... sure but everyone cant do that. What about health insurance? Got kids? HA! good luck, even with 50% from the company you are still going to have to pay $500+/month for mediocre coverage... Got a degree? well thats great when you have $50k in debts and cannot get a job in your field for whatever reason, and you are forced into the lower-wage pool to live paycheck to paycheck just to meet your basic bills, how are you going to pay those debts off? Good paying jobs just arent out there... or not enough of them.
But noooooo, we need to give more tax breaks to big business so they can hire? Well theyre enjoying the lowest tax rates in my lifetime... but wages have declined and more and more jobs are going elsewhere! Give me an effing break! I owned my own business for about 5 years... If they cut my taxes to ZERO it wouldnt have meant anything towards my ability to hire. For decades the NFIB has been polling their members about this... do you know what the number one reason they dont hire or expand is??? High Taxes? NO... Gov't Regulations? NO... get ready... ITS BECAUSE THERE IS LACK OF DEMAND FOR THEIR PRODUCTS AND SERVICES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Because real people... working class consumers dont have any money to spend... becasue we are unemployed, under employed or otherwise dont have the disposible income that we used to. You give Mr. 1% a tax break, he gets to keep $xxxxxx is he going to come spend it at your business? Probably effing not, its going to go into some Wall St fund, or to some offshore tax haven bank account. So he can spend it one $1000000 cars and multimillion dollar properties. Hes gonna buy a G6, and Im not talking about the Pontiac either...

They guaranteed loans that were made by PRIVATE BANKS, who cooked their own books and modified loan apps without the knowledge of the borrower... not to mention the PRIVATE BANKS that packaged these bad motgages and had PRIVATE RATINGS AGENCIES label it AAA, and then sold them to other PRIVATELY MANAGED FUNDS, etc... which then TRICKLED DOWN into retirement funds, etc. and when it all tanked... THE AVERAGE AMERICAN LOST HIS *** AND HIS RETIREMENT... THEIR CHILDRENS COLLEGE FUNDS, ETC...

We had many years of positive growth and steady living wage jobs in this country following the great depression... Though not everything was perfect... these were our golden years. No one can deny that. But in the last 30 years or so... weve had a steady decline in wages with a steady increase of the number of Americans @ the poverty level. While regulations have gone away and corporate profits increase as our good jobs and manufacturing base have been moved overseas. But whenever some reasonable congressman proposes a bill that takes away subsidies and tax breaks for companies that send American jobs out of the country... no one will back it, it wont even make it to the floor for a vote. Because Democrats and Republicans, even the self-labelled Independants are bought and paid for by the by those that have the money and power influence elections and lobby for legislation that benefits only them.
But, the curse of our country can be summed up in a simple quote. "If history teaches us anything, its that history teaches us nothing."
Its time for the pendulum to swing back the other way... maybe occupy isnt going to bring it, but it is at least starting the conversation and showing everyone that WE have the numbers and WE have the power if only WE get together and use it. Those effers only have money that WE give them. That goes for the corporations and the government.

Yeah, but to counter that... I would have to agree to some extent... Clinton is a corporatist Democrat if there ever was one. He didnt do anything to slow deregulation, and the 'free trade' deals he enacted were of no help to us. (NAFTA, CAFTA, GATT) I dont know why more free market right wingers dont like him? He contributed to the sell out.

Yup, thats the guy. Corporate sell-out in chief. or, Barack Obush as I like to call him. Because aside from a few social issues, Obamas policies are the same as Bush's were. Sure he talked a good game, but he knows who put him in office, and he knows who is paying the bills this time around too.
Dont get me wrong... Im not saying this is all Republicans, Democrats are just as bad... they just pretend they arent. Until we take the money out of politics, they are all the same.
