WHAT IS THE REVIEW SYSTEM?
The Northwest Firearms Review System was created to give Northwest gun owners a central resource for information on firearm-related businesses and organizations of Oregon, Washington, and Idaho. Our goal here is a resource which will provide all the information one might want; contact information, reviews, photos, discussion, and more.
One of the most exciting things about this new system is the ability for each business to take control of their own Review System page, giving them the ability to update information, post photos, and reply to member questions and reviews.
We need your help
Over the next few months (and possibly longer, depending on member participation) we'll be working to add every gun shop in Oregon, Washington, and Idaho, followed by gun clubs and ranges. With thousands of items needing to be added manually, this is no small task!
- Add Items - If you know of an item we don't yet have in the system please add it yourself.
- Review Items - The more reviews we have in the system the better the system will be. A list of members with the most reviews can be found here.
- Correct Information - The only way we know if a business has changed their contact info, moved, or closed is if you let us know (simply report the item).
REVIEW SYSTEM BASICS
The Review System should be pretty easy to figure out, but just in case here are a few pointers. As always, if you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask!
Review System Home Page (link)
This is the main page of the Review System, displaying top-level categories and a list of all items within the Review System. Categories are used to group similar items. In our case there are three categories for individual states and one for product reviews.
Clicking on a category will take you to the category page.
Review System Category Page (link)
At the top of each category page you'll find a map displaying markers for each item within that category. Clicking these markers will pull up the name of the business and the address. Clicking the title will take you to the item page within the Review System with more information. To view a larger map click the View Full Map link at the bottom.
Below the map is a list of all items in that category.
Refine Results
Many firearm-related businesses offer multiple products and services, such as gun shops which also have ranges. Rather than trying to place each business into a specific category (gun shop, range, etc) we have configured options based on what each individual business offers. This allows you to refine the item list, narrowing it down to show only the businesses which offer what you're looking for. Refine options are located both on the sidebar and above the item list.
Sort By
Sorting allows you to reorder the item list by date, views, likes, rating, number of reviews, or title.
Filters
Filters allow you to view items based on the letter they begin with, their rating, whether a business is a Supporting Vendor, and whether an item has or has not been reviewed.
Review System Item Page (link)
Each business, organization, outdoor shooting area, etc. has a single item entry in the Review System.
Write a Review
This button will take you to the page where you can write a review. The more reviews an item has the more useful it is to others, so we encourage our members to write as many reviews as possible. Along with the review you can upload photos which will be displayed in the Member Submitted Images box. Once you've reviewed an item this button will disappear.
Ask a Question
This button triggers a pop-up where you can ask a question about the item, which will then be posted publicly under the Q & A tab on the item page. Both fellow members and item owners may reply to these questions, with the item owner receiving an email to notify them a new question has been asked. Answers from the item owner are marked with "Official Response".
Discuss this Item
This button takes you to the discussion tab displaying the forum discussion thread for the item.
Watch this Item
Watching an item will notify you when the item information is updated, when someone asks a question, or when someone posts a new review. Watching the item discussion thread will notify you when someone posts a reply in the discussion thread.
ADDING & UPDATING ITEMS
1. Make sure the item isn't already added to the Review System.
Option 1: Search System
In the Review System, type the name of the item in the search box.
Make sure the boxes for Search titles only and Search Reviews only are checked, then click Search.
Option 2: Sort/Filter
- Go to the state category (I.E. Oregon Reviews).
- Click Sort By and select Title: A to Z.
- Click Filters and select the letter of the item you're adding.
2. Add the item.
- Click the Ad Item button, choose the proper category, and click Continue.
- Enter the item information in the text fields, such as phone number, address, etc.
- Click the boxes to indicate which products, services, or features the item offers.
NOTE: If you're unsure of any of the item information please leave it blank/unchecked.
All new items will be reviewed by a moderator prior to appearing in the Review System.
CLAIMING YOUR ITEM
To claim your business or organization click the claim button near the bottom of the item page. We will review each claim as soon as possible and you will be notified once the process is complete.
