The wife is a black belt in mixed martial arts, Kajukenbo and is also trained in edged weapons. So we have a katana sword within reach. Personally I keep a glock and my SX4 handy, loaded with two 00 buckshot in front of two slugs. She can sling her sword around all she wants, I try not to piss her off.

Always reminds me of the stupid movie, Walk Hard….when the doc says, that's the worst case of halfin I've ever seen - after the kid accidentally cuts his brother in half.

Somewhat just for fun here.
What are some weapons / items you could use for home defense that ain't firearms...?

And yes I know that home defense is much more than firearms or weapons...
Again this is somewhat for fun , or for thinking outside of the box , so to speak.

Below are some of my options / choices.

Meet Bobo Skehatantatan, around 500 pounds of pure aggression. No need for plates, he will take small arms fire. Large arms a few times. And if you really piss him off, you'll face his built in double barrel.

Bat, axe handle, framing hammer. If one lived some where were the right to self-defense is not a right (I am thinking the UK), framing hammer seems like a good choice. "I like DYI, and I was scared, Officer."

A few years ago I had a guy aggressively walk into my garage as i was opening the garage door. I had to open the car door between him and me. Shortly after that I shortened an axe handle that I now have handy in the garage.

Hire a Gurkha - more effective than all the rounds in your magazine.
He will always pack a kukri and super effective with them - look it up (don't know if any details provided will run afoul the rules).
Useful for non-lethal handyman moments too. :s0144:

On a lighter note, some pepperball pistol/short-rifle.
Doesn't negate the need for training/practice.

I will always prefer and prioritize projectile firing objects! So a gun is what is right as far as I'm concerned. Heck I'd rather have a BB/Pellet/Air gun than a knife or any other handheld non projectile firing weapon. If you live somewhere that guns aren't legal, then maybe airsoft is. I'd do that. If your scenario is so extreme that any projectile firing object is not feasible then I guess a machete or spiked/barbed bat would suffice. Maybe just boobytrap the place...

A spiked bat shows intent to inflict grevious bodily damage, and don't even get me started about booby traps.

'No your honor, I just grabbed the closest object, the 'garden weasel,' I had no idea it would make his guts spill out like that.'
