Somewhat just for fun here.
What are some weapons / items you could use for home defense that ain't firearms...?

And yes I know that home defense is much more than firearms or weapons...
Again this is somewhat for fun , or for thinking outside of the box , so to speak.

Below are some of my options / choices.
Andy

Yea, sign me up for some of those.

A spiked bat shows intent to inflict grevious bodily damage, and don't even get me started about booby traps.

'No your honor, I just grabbed the closest object, the 'garden weasel,' I had no idea it would make his guts spill out like that.'
Seems easy enough to me... "I grabbed my self defensive tool and used it. The one I designed to eliminate a threat to my life." Also, it's a jury not a judge. I'd take my chances! Same theory as preferring to be judged by 12 than carried by 6. Anyone that carries a gun should understand this. To each their own though.

This is where you look at him laying there and say "was that painful? It sure looked painful." :s0140:

Use a garden weasel you'll talk to a judge, use a weapon of your own design, or shoot them with your custom pistol with your special handloads and talk to a jury. A prosecutor will twist that around and make you look like you were just itching to try out your killer spike bat, or special handloads on someone, and didn't even consider less lethal response. Use a stock pistol, and off the shelf ammunition for self defense. Trust me on this. I've got fancy pistols, and handloads too, but not for self defense.

Nah, I'll use my gun. As I said originally, something that fires a projectile is the only way worthy in my home. And it will have a light, red dot, and extended mag. I don't care how a prosecutor tries to frame things. Swinging any object in a confined space is a very stupid and poor excuse for a defensive tool. Guns for the win always!

If someone is in your home and threatening your life and you shoot them? As long as the gun you have is legal the one thing that "might" get you in trouble is your mouth. An amazing number of people don't know how to shut up after something like this happens. It is a VERY shocking thing when it happens. After your rights are read there is NOTHING good to come from talking at that point. Its then time to wait for a lawyer to talk for you. Everyone who does get into a "bind" after what should be a "good shoot", does so by talking before the lawyer is there.

Ok, but the title of this thread refers to non firearm...

And he was replying to your post about using a firearm.
Kinda I guess. I watched a prosecutor convince a jury that an elderly retired postal worker was trying harder to kill someone because as they said regular bullets weren't good enough for him, he had to concoct special 'killer' bullets in his basement, and that the peep he was defending himself from would likely have survived his wounds if regular ammunition was used, and that my friend was a violent aggressive racist who wanted to make sure he killed someone, instead of just stopping someone. Total BS of course, but the average juror doesn't know better. He got 3 to 5, and was out in 18 months, but his life was never the same again. I carry 3 stock pistols, and off the shelf defensive ammunition. Your mileage will certainly vary, but I've seen something like this happen 3 times. Yes, I'd rather be alive, and if my range pistol happens to be the only thing I've got, I'll use it...

Isn't your daily carry the 30 super carry? Why not a 9mm or a 22lr? I dont currently know of a department that uses the 30sc......soooo that could be considered over kill?

Agreed completely. Always say lawyer. That would be my answer to everything!

Oh I know. My first post, however, in which I believe you initially responded to, I made it clear up front that I advised against any non firearm, even any non projectile weapon and that a firearm absolutely, regardless of the point of the post, would be my only real recommendation. In fact I even recommend an airsoft gun over any blunt force object or item. From there I played along and mentioned a couple things I would use if put in some ridiculously unrealistic scenario in which I couldn't have or use my firearms. I still stick by those recommendations. I mean, I've never heard of a garden weasel, but what I looked up appeared to be a very long handled gardening tool with spikes on it. If I were to suggest anything non-firearm my number one rule would be no long objects. Houses are nothing but confined spaces inside of confined spaces, especially in rooms with beds and furniture in the way and narrow hallways. A full swing of such a long item is not just difficult, but likely detrimental in one's inability to wield properly. For that exact reason I advise against long guns, like shotguns, vs a pistol. I'm very anti-long guns for any defense for this exact reason. So I'm also very anti-long stabbing or swinging objects. Yup, I stick firmly to my initial post.

I'll have a firearm in my hand. I was just pointing out that few common items can chew someone up as much as a garden weasel. Points in all directions, and when you make those interlocking blades spin the result is mulch. I'm a retired cop actually being hunted by people I once put away - I'm never more than a few inches from having a firearm in my hand, often both hands. I would never suggest that the weasel was better except for situations, as I assumed this thread was about, when firearms weren't an option... And in that case, I'll take a garden weasel please.

You don't think the length of that will be detrimental to your ability to utilize it? Just as a comparison to a bat or machete?
