Somewhat just for fun here.
What are some weapons / items you could use for home defense that ain't firearms...?

And yes I know that home defense is much more than firearms or weapons...
Again this is somewhat for fun , or for thinking outside of the box , so to speak.

Below are some of my options / choices.

When it comes to non-firearms my first thought is non-lethal. We have bear spray hanging next to the door, one in the car and we keep a small Pom pepper spray in our pockets. When I was attacked (outside of home) Pom pepper spray incapacitated the assailant immediately and because it's a stream I never even smelt it, not even on my hands. In Pdx you have to be prepared to deal with a non-deadly force threat imo.

I had a 1" steel ball left over from making a paracord Bolo, so I made a paracord Monkey Fist keychain.

I've had bats by every door in my house since I moved out at 17 and still do.

I have 5-7" knives in numerous places, some on purpose and some just because.

I do think on occasion if someone were stupid enough to just walk up and kick my front door in, would it be faster to get to my pistol or would I be better served to take a TV tray that is in front of the couch and throw it and everything on it at the intruder first and then go for the gun?

I think self defense is often thinking outside of the box in the moment. Yes, preparing and knowing how to use what you have set up gives you a big advantage but if there is one thing I have learned in life is that very few things go as planned and a flexible person will do much better in a bad situation then a ridged one will.

Here is a pic of a middle eastern sword my wife's step grandfather gave me to keep my post from being to boring - it is amazingly sharp, sturdy and hefty. The back story on how he acquired it though is vauge.

That is a very cool program.

I have some books about Viking and Medieval swordsmanship ....these books are based on archaeology finds...
Things like wound strikes on skeletons ...as well as some actual medieval manuscripts.

The big thing here is letting the weight of the sword do the cutting for you...and not doing flashy , showoff swings like Conan.

Personally, for non-firearm, could use the chainsaw, long handle splitting axe, bow, or a flamethrower...

Most effective would probably be the flamethrower. Probably the best way to say wrong house...

However, the flamethrower, might not be the best if you keep a lot of flammable materials around...

Since my flamethrower has a picatinny mounting system, perhaps attaching it to the base of my chainsaw or even the bow.....
