Warning: rant

Not just this firearms forum but every firearms forum I've been to.

If I have broken some sort of rule in this post please inform me I will delete the content.

Is it just me? I find that there are way to many post about the failure of our society and/or how to be prepared since every location you can be killed. I find that from what I read I only really take a small amount to heart and dismiss the rest. There are some very good points, while others seem to cry wolf.

Our social collapse
When I read about people ranting on about how our society in the US will succumb to chaos in the near future I wonder why those people are still living here. To me it's common sense that if I believe that there is danger beyond my control I leave that situation as soon as possible. Therefore why haven't people moved to a safe or safer location in the world? Why choose to live in a country that will surely fall and become chaotic? Why gamble with your life and the lives of your loved ones? By staying you are saying that here is as good as it gets.

Personal protection
I understand that in every situation there is always a potential danger. However I think there is an irrational amount of fear out there. Why should I fear that I will be shot going to the bathroom in my own home, should I also be checking for an explosive under my car every time it leave my sight? Why I should I fear, acknowledge and prepare for being sniped every time I leave my home? Do I go everywhere with a bullet proof armor? Should I fear everyone that is different than I <-- this is how the Japanese came to be captive in interment camps. How is living in this type of fear even comfortable? Why haven't people that think this way moved out of danger?

Overall
I understand all people posting on this forum only have good intensions and are simply trying to give advise so others can be aware. Stop blaming the republican/liberals for this Country's hard time, it is ultimately the fault of the society. If you really think it's their fault why not run for mayor, governor, house, senate, or for president? If you want to complain about how this country is running why don't you do something about it or leave to a country hat fits your views. CNN, FOX news they all ran by the same thing…. profits, neither is an unbiased news to call it so YOU are the sheep.

I have taken a fair amount of good advise from this forum and if I didn't care about this forum I wouldn't post on it.

some people just like to rant . most of it does not even add up to a hill of beans just people with a 6 pack and a key board at there hands

whiles others bring good points and good information, and most of all awareness, and some people are just scared while others have watched red dawn and dawn of the dead one too many times.

It is what it is. take from it what applies to you and leave the rest.

If anything, you can learn what others feel and think and just because they are not on the same page as you are it just means your not on the same page they are on.

Its to a point that most people take everything they read on the internet with a grain of salt just too much information too many voices saying the same things. a bunch of keyboard patriots who think they can change the world with keyboard when real change comes with real action.

a lot of it is just talk.

I don't live my life in fear of anything other than drivers on the road text messaging while making lane changes.

the way i see we are all gonna die some sooner than others, nothing we can do about that. If you believe in a after life death, It is something to look forward to, if you do not well then it really does not matter anyway does it.

In general I will have to agree with you. fear, rumors, and conspiracy theory are common in this forum but I have gleaned a lot of good information about guns here too. I frequent several other forums on several other topics and most tend to go this way. I have learned to sift through them quickly and discard what does not interest me and keep the rest. Life is like that. The negative tends to make the loudest noise but there is a lot of good out there too. I like guns and I do keep one loaded by my bed at night and often carry when I feel I should but not all the time. Perhaps that will get me killed someday but I refuse to live in fear. If it all hits the fan someday, the guy with the biggest and most guns wins and I don't think that will be me. As for survival, give me a 22 rifle and a good knife and I can last a long time in the woods.

Finally a non-redneck thread. I was thinking I was the only member that doesn't take a shower with my gun and isn't prepared for nuclear/EMP/Zombie attacks. Truth is your a million times more likely to get killed in a car accident. I don't see any "survival" threads about that. Driving with a helmet on makes more sense than most of the posts I see here. If you have a gun strapped to you 24 hours a day, you probably don't have an active lifestyle. And you're definitely not enjoying life being paranoid 24/7.

I figure these people just need somewhere to rant.. If they go on just throwing it out there, say a Chevy Truck forum and post in their OT section about a social collapse they will get boo'ed off the forum. But here this is a forum specifically about this, that is why they talk about it.. There are people with similar interests thats why the topics are so popular.

Do I agree with everything they write? No.. But its a good reading, its just really SHTF talk, planning and expecting the worst, that way when its not that bad it will be easy to get past.. I have learned alot of planning from some posts, some of the social collapse posts just get me thinking about these things and more interested in politics. But I am no where close to being a conspiracy theorist haha

But I do agree, some people seem to down talk the USA alot on here, so much I to question why they live here, I use my uncle is a great example. He bashes the USA all day long and how the government is running us into the ground.. I ask why he lives here and he says he gets free retirement money and moving is expensive so he stays.

Welcome to the Internet. I think that because this forum is fairly general in it's focus, vs. something like AR15.com, it lends itself to more of the ranting and tin foil hat contingent. That being said, I've made some good deals with other forum members and found some valuable advice. Glean the good parts for yourself and ignore the rest.

OK, I'm going back to the bunker to cast some more silver bullets. :s0131:

A topic I'd really like to see is something along the lines of how to spot a potential threat and/or how to spot a person that has a concealed weapon. Things that I can use in daily life. Maybe good tips on how to retreat safely.

There's a lot of diversity of opinions and interests on this form, which is one of the main reasons I like it. Most people - and I'm no exception - spend way too much time in comfort zones surrounded by folks who mostly think the same way they do. Even if I'm not as concerned about crime or societal collapse as others here are, they learn a lot in the process of preparing to deal with their concerns, and share a lot of that with the rest of us.

If somebody says something I disagree with - and I do disagree a great deal with much that is said here - I'll generally just avoid that post or that thread. If I feel like I have something to contribute, or more than a slight possibility of changing somebody's mind, I'll toss my opinion into the ring.

In short, I guess I don't really see what the big deal is....

I agree that there is a fair share of paranoia and doom-gloom rampant on these kinds of boards. But there is a real crisis coming and people are confused: Capitalism is becoming revealed as a functional lie, but because Capitalism OWNS our political and media and educational systems any Socialist solutions are automatically rejected from objective consideration. This is often called "brainwashing" when Capitalists describe Socialist ideas, yet what else is it besides Capitalist brainwashing? So the public continues to accept Capitalist domination that lets the CEO make on average five-hundred times the wage of the hardest working productive employee. And the corrupt Wall Street bankers receive a trillion dollars of Federal bailout money from their paid politicians so that they can give themselves multi-million dollar bonuses for wrecking the entire economy. But of course, we can't regulate that like Canada does because it would be "Socialistic." We can't even consider those evil ideas---Joe Stalin is just waiting and smacking his lips in anticipation. Meanwhile, those brainwashed Socialist Chinese have an economy that is growing by EIGHT PERCENT per year (and no, it is NOT because of slave labor--those days are gone. China now has a labor SHORTAGE.)

So, what am I rambling on about? Simply put, our Capitalist brainwashing is wearing off, and most of us cannot remember what the purpose of a society is. We have trouble finding what and who to support: somebody that is not corrupt and self-serving; something that ensures care for the "good" people and surpression of the "bad" people. We tend to develop an US-versus-THEM view of the country with hidden racism at its core, and there are plenty of "bad" people to validate that view. A sizable fraction of the population has gone feral with no political or social allegiance or morality at all except for maybe to a small "gang" of associates that support each other in crime and drug use. Consider the bloody anarchy in Northern Mexico these days: a corrupt government battles vicious drug gangs and the crushed public die by the thousands with no solution in sight, because that public is disarmed. Could that happen here?

My main point here is that to face growing fear and alienation, prepare and train yourself. What follows is not stress, but confidence. It is not paranoia to be ready. There are REALLY bad people REALLY out there who want to hurt you for fun and steal your stuff, but if you have prepared and trained you can leave the house with confidence and face the world without fear because you are able to defend yourself, at least as much as you can, and repell the feral monsters that lurk around us.

In my life I've been: assaulted four or five times, mugged twice, verbally menaced multiple times, burgled four or five times, vehicle broken into and burgled three times, vehicle stolen from driveway once, and had road-rage truckers try to wreck me twice. I can't count vicious dogs threatening me. I have been shot at twice, and had people try to stab me once. I have twice called the Law for help and had the cop tell me to my face that he would not help me. I have never been in law enforcement, and most of this was in Portland. You might think that I would be afraid to leave the house? No, I got training and I got weapons and permits, and a little martial arts experience. I face the world with a calm watchfulness, but not stress. I feel confident that I can repell most attacks, and simply evade many others. I find keeping awareness to be relaxing, and not paranoid.

For me the great part of viewing messageboards like this one is in finding how many decent, helpfull, "good citizens" there are out there. Society has not collapsed YET, and we ain't dead yet. We can all still do a lot of good and work for improvement of all of our chances to better deal with the global social changes on the horizon. It might not be the end of the world!..........................elsullo

I am not prepared either for nuclear/EMP/zombie attacks and I don't see any in the near or far future. I am with you and don't carry 24/7 as well. Oh life is grand.:s0131::s0131::s0131::s0131::s0131:

Shower with a gun? OK MAYBE.:s0155:

You know when I heard that a Camp Perry Winner was using soap and water to clean his guns, I started doing that as well...no more chemicals...

Makes sense to do it in the shower...

Know I know NEVER to move to Portland! That is just insane IMO that so many negative events can happen to a single person!
