My 1911 is a joy to shoot. Comfortable and smooth. You must be holding your mouth wrong or something.Glock 22.
Every 1911 ever made.
I have one in 30-06 and have shot it with two different stocks. With the standard stock and an ancient buttpad that was as hard as a rock, it was one of the worst rifles I shot. Changing the gun over to a Monte Carlo style (also a Winchester stock), even with the steel buttplate, made a pretty big difference. The change in length of pull was a huge part of that difference in recoil, too.Yeah, everybody thinks about the pre-64s as being the Holy Grail.
But they have poorly designed stocks for any caliber, and too light of weight for the heavy calibers.
The newer ones made in Portugal have a properly shaped stock for better recoil control.
I didn't think the recoil was all that bad, but the terrible trigger, the lack of sights (and accuracy!) and the fact that it was obvious I was carrying a block of steel made this easy to trade off. I traded it for a Model 60 I carried for a couple of years..45 ACP AMT BackUp. Fired first shot, stopped and looked at it to see if it had blown-up. Finished the magazine, packed it up and sold it. My .357 model 60 is pleasant by comparison.
Ever compared it to a p-83? I have debated getting a p-64 to add in as that is one of the last makarov variants I don't own.Polish P-64. Probably the worst DA trigger ever and extremely snappy recoil. It's probably the only gun I got rid of solely on account of its unpleasantness.

I have a little Taurus 85 ultralight that I am not particularly fond of. Its just too small and I can barely hold it correctly. I have been forcing myself to shoot it more and actually manage to hit stuff at 20 yards. Still don't enjoy it.
