Monolithic bullets for big game hunting?

It doesnt take much to pass thru a deer even with a dedicated deer load. Everythings a compromise in life and there as so many more variables that affect the desired outcome.
I mentioned deer and elk to not limit the conversation and keep the topic in general to the performance of bullets. Im not looking for a magic bullet, but the cool thing about handloading is you do get to select the exact bullet you think is best.
