I only carry in leather no matter what gun I carry. IMO leather is more comfortable, puts less wear on the guns finish and just cooler looking than plastic!:D

Typically steel and wood gets leather only, polymer could go either kydex or leather...

The leather IWB holsters I've used have molded the the shape of the firearm and fits like a glove.
My favorite handgun and in my favorite holster. Originally I believed that it might come out of the holster, but even after spending several hours recently bending and stretching while pulling crab pots it it didn't move. I do have an OWB with a thumb break I often use when open carrying, too.

So I went into my LGS on my way home last night and overheard a conversation, the 20-something's proclamation the "Leather Holsters are outdated" just sounded off to me. However on my way way it got me to thinking and of the 20 or so holsters I have, only 2 are leather.

So as the statement seemed off to me, in practice it's what I live...am I an anomaly?

Kids throughout the centuries have thought everything that didn't happen or wasn't made after they became self-aware is outdated. Even Skynet thought that man was outdated. But, sigh, such thinking is outdated for sure.

then again, I don't use a holster at the range (prohibited) or in any competitions (too old for the games).

Geez man, how old are you? I'm 67 and I limp around the IDPA match, and just go to a SASS Cowboy Action competition... those guys are all Geezers!!! ;)

I like the feel and smell of leather. I know it sounds kinky, deal with it.

I love the smell of leather... and patchouli as long as it's not doused on too thick, sandalwood incense, Harachi sandals, an ocean breeze, a rainy night, fresh mown grass, pipe tobacco, English Leather, Hai Karate, White Shoulders, puppies... and ladies underarms!!! ;););):eek:

For DB Wesner to say to that kid... from the Airplane movie: "Do you love the smell of old gym socks? Have you ever seen a grown man naked?" :eek:

I love good gunleather (almost) to the point of fetishism... swore I'd never carry in anything but quality leather holsters. As such I've got holsters from Sparks, Wild Bill, Zoglonje, Rosen, and even a few guys who are still alive and/or still in business.

But just as my hatred of Tupperware guns faded, my aversion to Kydex did too. Now I carry almost exclusively in Kydex IWB holsters w very few exceptions.

However... I took up a secondary "hobby" in covering (some of) my favorite holsters in leather. It serves no purpose whatsoever, but I like it.
Here's a few that were at the top of the pile (I mean that literally. There's a pile and I took these off the top)....

This right here is sexy:
Agreed.
Top pic is a Galco Yaqui Slide, got one of those here too. It's useful for single stacks (I used to OC a 1911 in AZ before the CC revolution) but even w the adjustment, not much good for blocky, wide, "modern" double stack pistolas.
Second pic looks to be a Masc beltslide... got one of those too. It's a high quality Turkish made holster at a reasonable price. I'm posting a pic of a Masc holster and a 1911 mag carrier just to show that their photos are not "beauty shots"... that's the holster you get. These were used in a class and apparently I didn't clean them... theres some mud/dirt. For reference, the top holster, lighter in color, is from El Paso Saddlery, Draw your own conclusions about the molding or "handboning" as it used to be called:

Didn't mean to turn this thread into a commercial, but like I said in my first post... I'm pretty passionate about my leather and especially gunleather.

I don't think anyone has mentioned a high quality plastic called 'Boltaron'.

Sorta, kinda, like a kydex holster, but smoother. I have 2 of them for OWB carry.

I bought them years ago and even then they cost $110.00 each. Pricey, but man they are very slim and very effective for concealed carry.

I also up until yesterday, carried my yard gun in leather, Crossbreed holster, but now keep it in a fanny pack to shield from debris as when I mow or prune or whatever, it stays clean.

disagree with the original premise;
have ample supply of both styles, depending on application;

last few years only holsters purchased were leather.:rolleyes:
