Yea definitely not a very good move for a Gov candidate but I'm sure the dems and antis loved it.

The Lt. Gov probably could have kept his 'Sick SOB' comment to himself as well.
So the people that were likely to vote for him in the first place were fans? I can't imagine many Texans OTHER than Dems and antis voting for him, so it sounds lie that may have been a good move.

So sad. We had a little event today at my daughters school where we eat muffins with the principal then go to our kids classes to see morning activities and that was brought up this morning. He powered through the question though.

There are still several weird things going on here.

Ramos allegedly purchased two AR rifles legally. Yet, his grandfather stated that he didn't drive nor have a driver license. What type of ID did he use to purchase the rifles?

Where did the handgun come from? He was under 21, living in a house with a convicted felon who stated that, had he known Ramos had firearms in the house, would have turned him in.

Ramos worked part-time at a Wendy's. The photos alleged to have come from his instagram account (released by CNN) depict two ARs -- one a Daniel Defense with an EOTech (XPS or EXPS). Expensive weaponry, even if you are an adult with a decent-paying full-time job. Just sayin'...

So many freakin' red flags over the past few months, and no intervention by anyone, school officials, medical or LE? Police called to his house multiple times after DV conflicts with his drug-addicted mother? History of truancy. History of cutting, noted by "friends." History of misogyny, noted by female co-workers. History of violent outbursts, noted by "friends" and classmates. History of disturbing social medial pictures and comments leading up to the event.

The news reports -- almost within minutes of the shootings -- immediately pointed the finger at the "new" gun laws recently signed by Texas Gov. Abbott. Almost as though these news reports were in the can, standing by for immediate release.

No conspiracy theories here, but something's definitely broken.

Got to love the main stream media.

They went out of their way to paint the Buffalo shooter as a Foxnews watching racist conservative, YET he is a self declared "ethno-nationalist eco-fascist national socialist" who loathes conservatism

And now not a peep about the Texas shooter being a tranny. I bet he was a card carrying republican.
Context is great, and we sure could use some right now

Before 10 people died in a shooting at a Buffalo supermarket on Saturday, the alleged gunman wrote a screed citing "ecofascism," an ideology that blames environmental problems on immigration and overpopulation.
"I would prefer to call myself a populist," 18-year-old Payton Gendron wrote. "But you can call me an ethno-nationalist eco-fascist national socialist if you want, I wouldn't disagree with you."
The 180-page document, which The Climate 202 is not publishing because it could inspire further violence, scapegoats immigrants and minorities for environmental issues such as air pollution, plastic waste and climate change.

This idea is related to the racist "great replacement" theory, which posits that White people are being intentionally replaced by non-White people. It has roots in the Nazi emphasis on "blood and soil" and the need for a purified "fatherland."
The theory has gained currency in recent years among white supremacists as well as some prominent conservative politicians and pundits. It has also prompted internal reckonings at environmental groups, which have grappled with their own stances on immigration and overpopulation.
The screed, which apparently played a role in the attack at a supermarket in a predominantly Black area of Buffalo, repeatedly uses pro-environment arguments to defend anti-immigrant views.

"For too long we have allowed the left to co-opt the environmentalist movement to serve their own needs," it says. "The left has controlled all discussion regarding environmental preservation whilst simultaneously presiding over the continued destruction of the natural environment itself through mass immigration and uncontrolled urbanization."

I hope we aren't supporting red flag laws now.

Beto just interrupted a press conference by Texas officials including the gov and lt gov. Worked his way up to the podium and began berating the gov as he concluded his remarks. He was eventually removed from the venue by security and some choice explatives were hurled in his direction by some in attendance. Abbot handled it well and and spoke a dignified rebuttal.

The inevitable reaction to the shooting has begun:

Civility has been going out the window for quite a while. Unhinged temper tantrums become violent. I've read dozens of violent screeds from, politicians, celebrities and the media in the last 24 hrs. It's ironic that they will, and have, embraced violence to "combat violence".

Won't be long before Beta O'Rourke goes back to his hell yes we are going to take your guns spewl. The guy is a bigger flip flopper than John Kerry and will say whatever gains him the most attention.

I do not believe he will win Texas governor, most Texans can see through a flip flopping muppet like him, but if he actually does that means the California migrants did their job and overran and ruined another state.

The hypocritical problem is, violence is only okay for their cause and beliefs.

Anyone else does it, they are radical racist conservative republican.

And this Parkland father is not wrong, if we can easily give Ukraine $40 billion dollars Parkland shooting victim's father says if we can send $40B to Ukraine, we can protect our nation's schools

Why can't we protect our own schools? Even $4 billion would be enough to beef up security and reasonable practices.

I was referring to "red flags" that should have been evident to everyone that had frequent or regular contact with him -- schoolmates, school faculty/officials, cops that responded to his home -- no evidence anyone ever tried to refer him for a MH evaluation, let alone counseling or even just checked in with him and asked him how he was doing. Clearly no family support, useless enabling "friends" (though that seems to be the norm for the younger social-media is our only communication generation), no one even said, "Hey, this dude is frickin' ready for a melt-down!" Seems all the signs were there.

We are not supporting any new gun laws, and being familiar with our state's red flag laws, there is too much potential for misuse and abuse, so hard no on that one.

He was 18 with a clean record. He could have still bought the rifles even if someone thought he was ready to melt down because Texas has no red flag laws.

That was NOT my point.

In a society where one has family support, concerned friends and co-workers and a school with educators concerned for the well-being of its students, there can be multiple layers of intervention without trying to make someone a "prohibited person" for firearms purchases/ownership.

In the "old days," despite the lack of gun laws and restrictions, this type of event was almost unheard of, even though there was, per capita, still multitudes of firearms in the family households. Why do you suppose that was?

Now this a a good start for the right questions that should be asked.

I strongly suppose it was due to the fact that most dejected losers couldn't garner instant fame by pulling a twisted stunt like this.
It took decades after Charles Whitman for the common weirdos of the world to see how easy it is. This particular cat is out of the bag now, and won't be going back in.

In the old days, you could support a family of four on a single middle-class income, with a nice house, two cars in the garage and food on the table. A lot has changed and we can't unwind the clock. I just know our country doesn't have the extensive network of support you speak of. That can't be created overnight.
