I shoot and prefer the 9mm but fortunately my preferred guns share the same frame with the 40SW, a simple complete slide change and you're you have a multi-call gun. I buy up slides for this reason in 40SW and a barrel in 357SIG, where possible. 40 SW gonna be here awhile, sadly, I do not think the 357SIG will stay as long.
I simply find, fit, or make 9mm barrels for my 40 guns. :)

The ballistics out of a full size or long slide aren't bad. But it's useless as a slim subcompact caliber. The straight walled, flat tip dimensions of .40 & 10mm don't feed as well as tapered cases & pointed bullets. I like 9x25, .45 Super and .460 Rowland better.

Being old with a good memory for gun stuff I should write out a quick history of how the 40 came about. I used to be well informed reading every scrap of news in the gun world and the 40 is very interesting.

.357 SIG is pretty much gone - it never really caught on like the .40 did.

.40 S&W 180gr @ 1050 fps

.40 S&W 200gr @ 1000 fps

.45 ACP 185gr @ 1050 fps

.45 ACP 200gr @ 1080 fps

Close enough for me, plus in my pistolas, the .40 S&W has less recoil than the .45 ACP
...and... you get more rounds than a .45 to tip the scales further.

Over a 9mm... you also get less bullet deflection... if you want to talk about real world practical affect vs. range and ballistics gel testing. (IE., attempting to shoot through a windshield or other resistant angled surface.)

It not as much as an issue as it used to be with 9mm, but "better" is still "better" when it matters. :D

Somewhat; Glock 21 in .45 - 13 rds with flush mag, 14-15 with +2 mag

SIG 226 in .40 - 13 rd flush fit, 15 rd with +2 mag

The 226 is much more ergonomic than the G21 (IMO) and has a much better trigger. *shrug*

The benefit of .45 ACP is that it handles heavier projectiles better than .40, and in some guns (e.g., Glock 21, FN FNX, H&K, etc.) you can shoot .45 Super, and some you can modify to .460 Rowland.

Comparing apples to apples though... A G21 - 13rds w/+2 option. A G22 - 15rds w/+2 option.

One nice thing about 40s&w is Glock Gen 5 furthered some improvements over all for the cartridge when designing its firearm.

The G23/22 Gen 5 got a slightly thicker slide to help tame the flip. The downside is now you may require a new holster specifically for it (fortunately these already exist).

Review of it

Holster showcase

Oh yeah,

Remember when 40SW was the only ammo on the shelf during sandy hook scare.
Remember during CV19 panic buys 40sw pistols sold just as much.

Going to figure out a way to carry my 30-30 contender concealed. Plenty of time to reload while the BG tries to get over the "what the hell was that" reaction while his ears(and wound) are bleeding. Out of a ten inch barrel it makes me smile (and maybe giggle a little). The only thing better would be a 375jdj out of a ten inch, working on it. The terms, "bullet resistant" and "cover" have much less meaning against properly loaded rifle calibers.I have my 30-30 load dialed in, a 147 grain steel jacket copper clad M80 bullet at 2000fps. Still working on a 375jdj load.

I like your CZ collection, a lot!! Especially, the 75 SA. Still want one, but the mags are not what i use. I am all over the P10/09 style mags.

You make your own barrels or have them made?
75, 40b, and RAMI can all share the same mags (some minor base plate issues)-I even have some mags that feed both 9mm and 40S&W.
The second SA 9mm slide was fit to the 40b-shoots like a....9mm 75.
9MM barrels for p09 and p07 fit to 40b, and RAMI, respectively. (couldn't find a 9mm bbl for the RAMI)
I may well have the only 9mm 40b out there.
