My thoughts are that Scalia will probably leave one way or the other during the next four years. Really any justice who is moderate to conservative KB the issue who leaves will be replaced with someone with an agenda.

I believe I have seen an interview with Scalia where he made clear he wouldn't leave the court during democratic president. I will try to google it up.

[/B] What happened in Conn is terrable, but there may be some history that the school district may have provoked this kid into these violent acts by having a confrontation with him a day or so earlier. Conn has one of the toughest gun laws in the country and their system failed. No kidding. I'm, surprised their irrational citizens do not want to burn the mentall ill at the stake--they did that hundreds of years ago, and that failed to eradicate mental illness. We live in dangerous political times.

I read that he had an argument with four people the day before and three of them were killed.
And it looks to me like the present laws worked. He tried to buy a gun a couple days before and once he found out there would be a 14 day waiting period he left. To have the weapons he did required him to break several laws. Like being underage to posses a firearm, being underage to posses ammo, killing his mother to get the weapons, etc. Seems to me he broke a bunch of laws, proving once again that criminals don't obey laws.

The limit of the SC is to interpret laws already passed which they HAVE NOT recently ruled upon. It would be unheard of for a SC majority to HEAR, much less decide differently on Heller or MacDonald.

That phrase was written 200+ years ago, and should not be taken by norms of the modern language or reality. Regulation in this context is believed to be "discipline" or "standardization". I personally like the standardization version. Basically during the Revolutionary War citizens were fighting with whatever arms they had (large variety of calibers), which was a logistical nightmare for supplying munitions.

Same thing applies to the commerce clause. To regulate meant to "make regular". The founding fathers worried about states not allowing free flow of commerce between the states.

Technically SC has a history of overruling their decisions. Please look at this research :
