If you're careful to protect that trigger (gun in holster) and mindful of muzzle direction, you might stick your gun in a camera case. Advantages - can shift it around occasionally, people think it's a camera. Disadvantages - you might leave it behind after a rest on the trail, and it's not designed for carrying a gun so there may be unknown safety issues, and you might have to lie if asked about your "camera".
