So I went to my local pawn FFL to check my position and clarify his interpretation of no approval in 30 days. He was combative and seems anti-gun but his explanation of BGC process confused me.

I asked if he would call NICS on his own or does he need me to come in (he seems letter of the law type). He says if I don't pass in 30 days he does call but there is no NICS just OSP. I told him I'd heard of a number of FFL that call direct to NICS after OSP doesn't yay/nay by 30 days. He again said no such number exists and I am being lied to. I pointed out OSP are a middle man and they call NICS which he agreed but says FFLs can not call direct since Measure 5 closed the gun show loophole.

I'm angry and confused. Is he right? Is he following the law? Is there anything I can do? I assume I'm just stuck with my bubblegumty decision especially since it seems other shops stopped taking transfers so I can't even send it elsewhere to someone more gun friendly.
You could ask him if he would cancel your background check and send it to a shop who is using three day rule. It will cost you more and you would have to gamble that a judge won't shut down three day rule releases before you could pick up your firearm.

I was going to do that and send it to Keith's but they said they haven't taken transfers since last month.

I figure I'll try again after Friday as long as things go well with the courts, but I'm not hopeful. Just living a nasty lesson on being cheap and the different shades of gray in gun culture.

Everything Oregon.gov touches turns to bubblegum. If you think this is bad, wait until "healthcare for all" rolls out.
Medicare/Medicaid pays providers about a third of what private insurances pay. When we get Medicare for all we will have a massive exodus of private practice healthcare providers because they won't be able to survive off that. The providers that stay will be forced to minimize time spent with patients so they can see more people. So at the end of the day you will get bad healthcare for all.

Frankly, I'd rather have "bad" healthcare that won't bankrupt me than barely acceptable healthcare I can't afford to use

I'd rather our healthcare as a leading world power to be top notch not another failed government agency. I understand the corruption with the government and insurance companies that's allowed them to rake us over the coals that's a separate issue.

We fundamentally disagree on this issue. That's as far as I'll take it

Some insight I got from OSP.
Per a telephone conversation I had with the FICS personnel on Friday (12/16) they were currently processing purchases made on 11/13. I again had a call with them on Monday (12/19) was told they were processing purchases made on 11/15. They have 5 Troopers pulled from patrol to "man the phone calls" The wait continues!

That's good news for me my purchase was on 11/15, I might get it before Christmas.

You're gonna get neither if Medicaid/Medicare becomes the overwhelming standard for paying out in Oregon. Healthcare providers are going to continue to shut down services and you're going to find yourself begging to get in a queue somewhere out of state.
Funny how the govt has a hard on for minimum wage but are unwilling to pay healthcare systems at a current level given the costs and support. They haven't upped the payments for about thirty years.

Speculation

Can you name one government benefit that the government provides well and does a good job at?

I'm still in the queue as of today at place 11,000 for my 4473 (for three items) on December 7th.

I know this because I was at my FFL today and I asked about my placement, but it didn't matter because my FFL follows the 3-day rule and gave me my Decmeber 7th items last week after 3-days.

However, I did another 4473 today (for two new items) and it was instant approval. Wasn't expecting that based on still being in the queue for previous items.

Remember, I'm still in the queue for the items on the 7th, but approved for new application items today.

Makes no sense.
