I just (today, Friday Oct. 28th) talked with the most knowledgeable FFL I know and they said this rumor is nonsense.
Also, FWIW, the CPL is given for FIVE years. It's entirely conceivable that someone could be convicted of a prohibited crime but still retain a CPL that hadn't been officially revoked.
You still need to go thru NICS. The CPL only gets you out of the WA STATE (Yes, we still have that nonsense on the books) waiting period on handguns.
