Then there are those who would put a spin on how value-less 'your' property theft is with: They're mere 'possessions'. How dare you not want them stolen! Or, gawd forbid you prevent from being stolen. (that you may have worked all your life for)

Remember. your stuff is not being stolen, you are making a unplanned donation.

What we are seeing on the streets are generally akin to the Brown Shirts. Shock troops. But there are some serious people behind the scenes. And once they whip up their followers into arming themselves, things may be somewhat different. If something like the Symbionese LIberation Army comes along, there could be actual fighting. I'm sure they won't win, but it won't be fun. The 60s changed our world... so did "they" win or did "they" lose??? It could happen again.

There are a FEW, really dedicated "useful idiots" around. Fortunately there are very few. One of the great things about how easy we have had it here for so long. Notice any rioters and looters with no shoes, tattered clothing, looking like they missed a few meals? No. What you see are people who are very well off, holding phones that cost enough you could buy a working car for what the phone costs. Think they go home to a tin shack? LOL. They go home to live in homes that are VERY nice. These are not the kind of will fight when they get hurt. The ones who will start shooting will first shoot at Cops. When that starts the people in charge will have no choice but to stomp them.
If we had to go to war like we did in the past? We would be in trouble. People can pile up ammo and guns waiting for the great battle but it's just not ever going to happen.
Now if the voters allow the Government to just force in police state? Again there will be no big fight. Most will line up to hand in their guns for the promise to be taken care of. The virus hoax showed them just how easy it is. People have just had it too good for too long.
The only way real change will happen then is when those who gave up freedom for the promise of being taken care of find out what they get. It will take too long for me to live to see it. Feel bad for my kids as they are going to see some bad times but again, this is people getting the Government they deserve.

Not trying to be political with this, trying to get back on track. But the laws WERE once based on society's common ethics. AFAIK shooting somebody in the back was never applauded by society.
