There are two types of FAL mags.

Metric and Inch.

Metric is way more common.

Metric will fit both inch (loose but will work) and metric guns

Inch mags will only fit inch.

With very very few exceptions, all FN/FAL's are 7.62 x 51 (exceptions are so rare you don't need to worry about it unless you just dropped 4k on a strange FAL)

If you google it, you will find that one of the easiest ways to tell the difference if the floorplate. On inch, it curls around the bottom of the mag like a G3 mag. Metric, it slides in like an M14 mag. Also there's a large lug on the front of the mag where it engages the receiver- on metric, there is a little protuberance bent into the sheet metal of the mag body that catches the little scalloped area in the receiver.

Both work neither is better or worse. Just apples and oranges.
