Just saw they updated the area is closed till Spring/Summer 2024 :-(

That's weird, two weeks ago they were planning the end of October. I'll call and get the scoop from the horses mouth.

Well shucks! It is closed and extended till next summer.

My correspondence with the ODF State Recreation Mngr, Randy Peterson, says the didn't know it had changed until I asked about it. He contacted the State Forester and learned that the current operational contract for logging has been extended into the spring. With that change, the opening of the North Block of the Santiam has indeed been delayed.

I'm not a happy camper! I think it has taken way too long to make that part of the forest safe for public use. But, I'm not there working in the trenches, so I don't know the realities of what is left to do.
