hall monitor culture..

this is "news?" uhg.

i find a gun in a diaper bag near kids, i probably just let the owner know their bubblegum was found and to button it up tighter lest some hall monitor decide a SCHOOL LOCKDOWN is in order.. jesus, what a monumental waste of energy, time, and unnecessary embarrassment that would be. and you know goddamn well anyone initiating a lockdown over that garbage would be doing wholly punitively - teach them a lesson!

Lots of depends. If I had been the person to find it in a diaper bag I would have put it back in the bag and then returned it to the owner with a good finger waggle about security of said pow pow.
I agree. If I found someone's personal property that was misplaced, lost, or stolen, I'd do my best to get it back to them. Having had guns stolen from me, I'd hope others would do the same.

That said, misplacing a gun like this is pretty bad, should never happen. Carrying a gun is a big responsibility, and leaving your loaded carry pistol where others (especially kids) could get it is a serious mistake.

For three kids worth of years I always kept a 1911 in my diaper bag. That bag basically never left my shoulder though.
I remember that movie, it had Michael Keaton in it! Good on you being involved with the kids, way too many lazy fathers out there that think they are too good to help out.

my mom found this one squished down in the mud by the Madras dump 40 ish years ago. I ask her if she was going to turn it in to the cops, she said bubblegum no, mom didn't swear, one of them will just keep it. I think she was right

back when I worked in LA at an inner city church, I did find a couple guns that had been tossed out front in the gutter. I touched them wearing gloves and called the cops. Frankly, given the neighborhood and the fact that at least one had a filed off serial, (jennings) there were likely bodies on them. (the other was a hipoint that was so crusty I couldn't tell if it had a serial or not and I wasn't about to do anything with it.)

I dont think I would be able to trust that person again in a kids environment. Im all about letting honest mistakes slide but I would have a hard time with this one trying to convince me unsecured off body carry around kids is something to let slide.

" A team member found a handgun inside a diaper bag..., at at a family retreat held at the Texas School for the Deaf, ... "
" The discovery did not trigger a lockdown and police were not contacted. ... "

"A staff member locate and return the firearm to its owner, who was allowed to leave without an escort ..."

"The owner of the diaper bag was identified, told to leave, and left the campus with family, ..."
I would check to see if it was stolen and if so give it to the police, otherwise try to find the owner.
