Nope. Nothing that could prevent what happened to those folks in Vegas. I don't routinely go to concerts so no difference there. I don't go places I can't carry and I keep tabs on emergency exits and always think of a route out if bad things happen.

Crazy strikes unannounced and sometimes horribly so. Its the cost of living in a free society. The rhetoric spewed by people from both sides has me fed up to the point I wish to God we could actually just split the country into halves and be done with it. One side can go full retard on socialism and have a gleefully disarmed populace of subjevts. The other can retain and embolden protections asured by the Constitution and live as a representative republic. So tired of constantly being assaulted and demanded that I should give up my rights so some lazy bubblegums can have a false sense of safety because they are unwilling to take care of their own damn selves.

Nope, I was counter-terror back in the late 80s; after Beruit and Iran Hostage Crisis, but before the Achille Lauro, and before it turned....satire.

What event(s) changed me?

When the Red Brigade fired an RPG at a US General Dozer.... in Germany.

Eyes were opened by my exposure to a now-irellivant level and abundance of HUMINT.

no more then a commercial airline or train crash would. The odds are just to low to worry about.
This is the point that people miss because they don't understand the statistics behind it. You are far more likely to die of illness or random every day things you undertake such as driving, than you are to die in a mass shooting.

Heck, even carrying a gun doesn't guarantee anything. They will likely get the drop on you, and 80% of people shot with a handgun don't die. They don't magically stop from being hit with a bullet in the stomach either. There are no guarantees other than death and taxes my friends....

No, I'm careful where I go, when I go, how I go. We don't go to concerts and that type of venue, heck, I don't go to the movies more than once a year. Maybe two years! I watch out for possible problems that I can do something about, fight or flight wise! There is no defence against the situation the Vegas concert goers found themselves in, so there's no sense in wasting worry on them.

We are going to Vegas in December to the George Strait concert. Down Sat AM and back Sunday AM. Vegas is a shi*hole, and I had my one experience there in March with the criminal set. I will probably check a pistol even for the small amount of time we will be there.

I did much better up in Seattle this last weekend than last month at the Petty concert. I had researched out the way to get there better, and meeting up with @CavemanJim and hanging out with him and his wife for the evening at least assured us that one of us could back the other up even unarmed old guys, at least being with like minded people was a bit comforting.

We will still do the concerts because we love going to them, and after losing Tom Petty this week, you never know when that chance is over. I tolerate crowds to some extent and pick and choose what we do and go see. We are working on bucket list things in the next 10 years, in that time frame between 60 and 70 when we are still healthy and able to to do things. Got time to stay closer to home after that if need be, you never know when your time is up.

Nope.
I have a firm belief that when your numbers up it dont matter where or what you are doing. Its time to go.
That being said, you wont find me living in fear. I have a life to live and kids to teach how to do the same.

Life is brief.
Hug your loved ones, and live like there is no tomorrow. Because eventually there wont be one.

Short answer, no. I've never liked big crowds, nor have any interest in pop culture, so that isn't going to change. My better half went to a concert (Piano Guys) in recent memory, but that was the exception, not the rule.

Beyond that, I carry everyday and believe life should be lived prepared. The natural disasters in Texas, Florida, and Puerto Rico, and the horrific acts perpetrated by a deranged degenerate in Nevada, if anything, has only reinforced that outlook.

Can't and won't be scared to live my life! Always best to use situational awareness, watch everybody, and take care of your own. I love it when you are watching everybody and you see someone else doing the same. I always tell my wife hes ex military, police, or corrections. Then the old lady will notice. Wife is getting better and teaching kids the same!

The rhetoric spewed by people from both sides has me fed up to the point I wish to God we could actually just split the country into halves and be done with it. One side can go full retard on socialism and have a gleefully disarmed populace of subjects. The other can retain and embolden protections assured by the Constitution and live as a representative republic. So tired of constantly being assaulted and demanded that I should give up my rights so some lazy bubblegums can have a false sense of safety because they are unwilling to take care of their own damn selves.

Definitely agree, as much as it pains me to regarding splitting the country. Seems like there is no such thing as reasonable compromise with the left anymore; if they don't get their way they burn the place down (all while blaming the more conservatively minded). God willing, the wife and I will retire to Texas (or move there when our son finishes college).

I am a social people person to some extent since my business requires me to be that way when teaching classes.
But I do not like crowded places at all! Mostly do not want to fight traffic and people getting in and out of events and programs. To me it offsets the enjoyment received by attending what ever program or event that was going on. I also keep my distance from people as far as on a close basis. And keep guard on those I do not know or who might be untrustable. I also do not talk about my business to anyone but family and good friends. And I do not prefer to go anywhere I can not carry a pistol in my ankle holster or other concealment and absolutely do not talk about the fact I am carrying while doing so. Other than that I do not plan on any changes.
Simply the guy was a full blown Whacko or affiliated with a group? We will have to see what the investigation provides regarding some sort of answer? And as MK stated unless his plot had come to surface prior somehow there was nothing that would have been able to be done to prevent this cowardly act. And I hope God stamps his one way speed Ticket straight to H**L!

I knew i was with birds of a feather here.... I get anxiety attacks if I go to Costco on the weekend let alone a venue concert like Vegas.... see ya'll out there in the woods... or not as that's kind of the point, right?

Try working there on the weekend! I work at the busy one in portland. Im a little more ok with crowds then some of you guys (and gals) but its not something ill get used to. Its gets me agitated in a hurry when people are less than kind to top it off

The older i get the more i avoide places with lota of other people. I have never been comfortable in crowds and even less so when there is drinking or drug use alomg with it! Where i normally live, the population is less then 1200 total, and the big city is 1 1/2 hour away. We do our shopping and entertainment there some times, but its a diffrent sort of people, so we feel a little safer!

Population centers have a lot to do with it. I find there are a lot of azzholes, inconsiderate POS, tweakers, criminals in the more metro / urban areas. I live out in the rural area south of Forest Grove and this area is fast becoming like Beaverton with traffic and shi*bags all over the place.

When we go to our property in Central Oregon, it is like a breath of fresh air when we drop over the summit and see Black Butte ahead. Most of the time the traffic is a lot less, the people are much nicer, and far less sh*theads around. Our time at larger events will be declining when we move over there in a year or so, and a different type of recreation will take its place.

Nope. Can't think like that. The people that want to do away with the constitution and bill of rights can find a new country to live in and leave our soil. Some Socialist/Communist country will take them in and give them everything they could want, need or desire.

You want to let China or whichever country and or entities that are subverting our UNITED States move in and be right on our doorstep? Nope. They can't have any of it. Not a single square foot of land. What I worry about is if it actually were to come to a Civil War (assuming we aren't kinda in one already) what happens? How vulnerable does America come to attack? Or do the politicians and elite just start jockeying for position and hope they can carve out their own little kingdoms? Or does it kick off WWIII? Because if our nation goes down they all do?
