Hey everybody,

As a new member, I don't know if this subject was addressed in the previous threads. So forgive me if I'm repeating this subject. Do you guys think that California will ever be a 'shall-issue' state? Recently, the State of Illinois went from 'no issue' state to a 'shall-issue' state and I was wondering if you guys think if California will be the next state to become a 'shall-issue' state. It's really annoying that California prohibits anybody from carrying their firearm unless if they're in a rural region like near the Oregon-California border *cough* State of Jefferson. *cough*

Sacramento county now will issue after jumping through a bunch of hoops if you have a "valid reason". This is only after a federal investigation and a few law suits. By law CA counties have to track the number of applicants and number of permits issued - The way they were keeping the number of denials from being recorded was fairly simple, before they would give you an application they would meet with you and tell you they weren't going to issue and the application fee is not refundable. The feds got involved after Sac county declined to issue a permit to a retired FBI agent who was doing contract work for them still. The investigation turned up not only that the county was simply not giving the application to people, but a disturbingly high number of people who were issued permits also were on the list of people who donated over $5k to the sheriff's election campaign. Also, more than one person who was on that list of large financial backers that did receive permits shouldn't have, at least one of them was prohibited from owning firearms and at least one had a domestic violence charge in their past.
Another thing to consider, it used to be that LE family members could easily get a permit in Los Angeles, no longer the case. It would seem that aside from places where law suits forced the counties to issue that the rest of the state is getting more restrictive.

About the only way I see CA becoming shall issue any time soon would be if the 10 miles closest to the coast from SF to LA were to fall into the ocean taking all who live there with them. If you look at the county by county breakdown in CA its not that different from OR and WA - get rid of the dense population center voting districts and the rest of the state is pretty conservative and over all is mostly pro 2A.

It will never become a "shall issue" state as it is now. But there are proposals to break up California into 5 different states. However, as Swedish pointed out the libs are concentrated into more or less two or three population centers and they'd never allow it be split up. After all in addition to (the blue population centers) controlling everything, they need the folks in the red areas to pay for their social agenda.

As far as I know California is a "May Issue" state. I don't see that changing anytime soon.

I had my concealed carry permit in Ca, but I lived in a rural county. Rural California is almost like America.
Sacramento, San Francisco and L.A. liberals rule the state and unless that changes, California will continue down its socialist path.

I finally gave up the fight and moved to Oregon only to find out that it is fast becoming another California. The large leftist population centers wield all the power here as well.

We almost moved to Idaho, but I couldn't sell rural Idaho living to my wife.

All the conservative 2a friendly folks are leaving California by the droves. Who can blame them? But, with all due respect, you guys should be staying there and trying to change things for the better. Or maybe just to be a thorn in the side of the lib gun-grabbers. Who knows? Maybe you can affect some change for the better or at least working to postpone this crap until a new, better educated, more freedom-minded generation comes along.

After more than thirty years of living there, I got tired of the constant battle to retain the most basic freedoms, so I moved. I'll continue the fight, but now it's up here with the sock puppets in Salem.
