Join the #1 community for gun owners of the Northwest
We believe the 2nd Amendment is best defended through grass-roots organization, education, and advocacy centered around individual gun owners. It is our mission to encourage, organize, and support these efforts throughout Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming.
burnelie, I started a link that had asked that question last week and had many useful replies.
It's on page two at this time and is titled (GHB, BOB, whats in yours?) there were many useful replies from some good people and a few PM's that were excellent.
Nutnfancy has a great term he uses 'POU'
Philosophy Of Use:
Since we cannot conceive nor prepare for everything in all circumstances define what you need your BOB to do at hat weight and size and eliminate everything that does not fit that POU.
If you live in a desert or tropical paradise you will have a different POU than someone that lives on the OR coast.
The most sensible approach I've seen is breaking things into categories. Something like:
1. Water
2. Food
3. Shelter (protection from the elements)
4. Security
5. Fire
6. Intel (gathering & comm)
7. Medical
Once categories are identified, they may be prioritized. For example, security is a moot point without water.
Within each category, identifying how extensive the needs are, and basing the particulars on that. For example, a 48 hour bag doesn't require a massive amount of calories or water. Similarly, a 48 hour bag doesn't require a radio. Once needs are determined and addressed, wants can be prioritized and included.
Having a method, be it something like this or another, makes the process easier.
