The National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2018 (HR2810) that is headed to Trump's desk includes an amendment that will release M1 Garands, M1911A1s, and .22 training rifles. News here.

Cheers.

I'm glad about this. But don't get your hopes up. I saw some of these CMP 1911's on another forum.
Mixmasters with many aftermarket parts. I would pass.

If there are any diamonds. You will see those sold at the CMP auction.

Think $3000+ or so. o_O

You mean John McF***wad McDouchebag McChurian McTraitor McSh*tstain didn't get it removed and replaced with one ordering them to the smelters like he wanted after all?

Just looked at DCM and really the only thing they have for sale are some Savage MKI and II FVTs A rifle I already have. Though I have made some slight alterations to it compared to the ones they have.

On the 1911's it will not matter if they are a mixed bag. People are willing to pay (to me) insane prices on these now days. I have not seen one for sale that I would buy in decades do to what was being asked for them. Every time I see one in some shop at what to me is insane price it's always gone the next time I am there. I'm just glad to see them making some money off the damn things rather than melting them as scrap.

One of the first jobs I had as a Small Arms Specialist in the Army was a batch of 1911A1 .45ACP Pistols from the MP Detachment. There were 200 Pistols. They needed refinishing. Two Hundred Pistols got completely stripped, right down to removing the grip screw bushings, bead blasted and then all parts were parkerized. The next step was to reassemble the same batch of Pistols. New grip screw bushings were installed and the rest of the parts were put together. No, I didn't match Slides and Frames so I can assure you that those two hundred guns aren't going to be matched. It's my understanding that every 1911A1 in the Arsenal has been refinished at least three times so I would not expect ANY of those to be matched, Except by accident. And who knows if they went back together with the original pair. Aftermarket parts - it's a fact that Colt didn't always win the parts contract so yes, the other supplies have some parts in the system. I would not call those Aftermarket but you can. Oh, the three times through the refinishing process, that information came in 1968 so I sure they've all been through a couple more times.

Who knows, maybe the folks at CMP are going to do a little playing with the 1911A1s coming in. I'm sure for their own Guns they'll be swapping Slides and Barrels to get the correct ones to match their Frame. Could be they'll do a few extra.

As part of the SOP for refinishing in the Army the grip screw bushings, plunger tube and front sight are all replaced with whatever is in the spare parts bin at the time. That particular batch of 1911A1s from the MP Detachment was on a schedule for refinishing every four(4) years. They'll be kinda shopworn by now - they already were then.

I don't think there is any easy answer, to the ownership of a nice 1911A1.

Best bet is to go out and shake the tree's and see what turns up.
A gun would need to have been taken out of service years ago to escape being a mixmaster.

But they are out there.

LOL you can order the basic Savage MKII from any dealer if you are a qualifying member of some organization the DCM will sell to then you can buy a used one at a good price.

If you want one like mine I can show you what it took for me to create that stock out of the Boyds Tacticool stock I started out with. It was a very long project.

Hey! Don't count them out yet.
The CMP [Or as some still call it the DCM] still has M1 rifles for sale.

Though I'm not sure for how much longer. :(

M1 Garand - Civilian Marksmanship Program

The Army Plans On Selling Off Its Remaining Arsenal Of M1911 Pistols

The $700 billion 2018 National Defense Authorization Act that Congress sent to President Donald Trump's desk on Nov. 16 included an amendment that required the Secretary of the Army to transfer a cache of small arms and ammo "no longer actively issued for military service" to the government-sponsored Civilian Marksmanship Program, including the M1911 and M1911A1 pistols, the M–1 Garand, and .22 rimfire rifles.

I know there was a post about Garands somewhere, but I missed any mention of 1911s.

I wonder what .22 rimfires they are going to be selling?
