Oh, I think you're all missing it.......

This was an act cooked up by Trump and the Russians to get the focus off the Russian investigation

Not really....., but I'm surprised that the MSM hasn't been throwing that out there.... This was a sicko participating in a group of sickos. One of the other posters in his twisted sicko Facebook group apparently posted something like "One down, 246 to go" before it was taken down shortly after the shooting. I may have the actual number count wrong, but the general message was a "yay team, keep up the good work" type message. This particular shooter won't be troubling anyone again, but there's more where he came from!

Infectious disease, starvation, malnutrition, poor food quality.... A lot of things come to mind before religion. If religion must be added for whatever anti-religion reason that is.

Even if you were to narrow the cause of death to "war" the claim that religion is the root cause of most of those deaths still doesn't hold up.

The book "Encyclopedia of Wars", which documents the history of recorded warfare, lists 1763 wars of which only 123 have been classified to involve a religious cause. Those 123 wars account for less than 2 percent of the estimated number of people killed in warfare. Territorial expansion and competition for resources ranks #1.

Actually it's infectious disease, but if kicking religion makes you feel good by all means carry on.

Oh! did I step on a personal toe? Nothing has created more death then fighting over religion. I am sorry if that offends you. But that's life. I was not bashing religion in anyway. Just stateing facts.

I know that's your opinion, but you state it as a fact. Based on what @nehalemguy guy posted just before you, can you really say you're making an accurate statement? Or is it just an opinion based on your dislike of all religion? You say you're stating "facts" - I'd like to see those facts.

Oh right. I'm sure every religion in existence demanded infectious diseases, poor food quality, among other things to happen. And even if you try to claim the deaths to be the result of war started by religion, you would still be wrong as a minority of wars were to have been done for religion.

And just to take one away in case you want to cite wars started by religion, the crusades didn't happen with religion being a primary force. Religion at best was secondary (and that's just being nice for those who want to keep pushing religion as the cause for them), they were territorial. The first crusade only happened because the Turks pushed into the Byzantine Empire and called for help from the European kingdoms. The second was trying to keep control of the territories, and the third was to try and regain the lost territories. Can hardly say religion was the cause of those.

So if you're stating facts, start citing wars caused by religion as the primary reason, and the other deaths caused by religion being the primary factor. Cause those will still be outweighed by other wars and deaths.

I think Old Age would take that prize. The gun of time.

Opinion until you present factual numbers and cite the source.

I'm sure he just misspoke in the midst of the conversation, obviously 93,000,000 lives lost is impossible, even across the globe. Probably just McCauliffe's "covfefe moment.

Regardless of his slip, I am not the least bit surprised this is going to be used for yet another lame argument for gun control - gun control that will never, ever, ever stop these events from happening.

Now if you'll excuse me, I need to get my affairs in order as according to the Governor, I will be dead from gun violence in the next 3 days! Which, of course, leaves no one left in the country, so I guess it will be quiet around here.
And he said it three times. Somebody finally corrected him and he apologized, but it goes to show you the state of mind of these politicians when they speak publicly. It's not facts off the top of their head. It's memorized talking points that they don't even think about while they are speaking.

I've seen this claim many times over the years, and those who make it seem to believe it with a passion even though it's an easy one to refute historically, statistically, an factually.

I guess the idea is that if only we'd eliminate religion from humanity we'd all live in peace and harmony. Unfortunately that's much like saying if we'd just eliminate all guns from society everything would all be rosy. The facts just don't bear that out. Banning guns or religion look like attractive solutions for some, but outside of an ideological fantasy it won't work.

Like others here have said, the problem is people; violent cultures and just plain old human nature.

We need to address the issue of why some folks feel that violence is the answer , not what was used.

That would be nice but that would require people sitting in a position of power to understand that, and make a change instead of instigating it and making things worse. Don't get me wrong Andy I totally agree with you. Guns are not the problem!

Stalin, Hitler, and Mao did a hella job between them, too. They have been retesting the mass extinction by Socialism concept with great success in Venezuela the last few years as well.
Same thing as blaming Christianity for the crusades, or the Spanish Inquisition, and witch hunts... etc
You're forgetting Argentina. Also forgetting that Hitler's idea for concentration camps was derived from American Indian Reservations and British prison camps formed from the Boer Wars, all verified through captured documents. I'm just saying to reaffirm the position that it is the persons objective, not the ideals of an ideology.
Tho the monotheists of the Middle East were designed to create militarist states to concur the world(Judaism, Roman adopted Christianity and all it's sects, and Islam). Nobody is an original Christian anymore, hate to break it to you. Budhists also committed genocide against the Bund. Peaceful personal ideologies are not the problem. Forceful conversion is the problem. The guy who did this to these representative is the problem. The UPS worker, a much more frightening prospect that underlines the term...
MENTAL HEALTH CRISIS!

Meanwhile, in San Francisco, a UPS worker goes postal at the sorting facility where he works...
I couldn't help but giggle... I'll see you in the lake of fire! LoL

But no matter what it is called , banning violence or an item , does nothing to stop violence.
We need to address the issue of why some folks feel that violence is the answer , not what was used.

It's just the easy way so they can build self esteem and pat themselves on the back... I understand.
