80 series land cruiser has many in vehicle and out storage solutions for water, fuel and on board compressed air setups. Just my favorite expo style vehicle. But many options depending on what you have. Definitely stable temp and no light help preserve stored water. And having a backup filtration system is vital. Bleach is certainly viable. Just prefer a carbon/virus filter.

Just an idea,

2 - 4"x 24" pvc (for potable)waterpipe will hold 1.3 gallons each... make 2 containers (or more)

--- tough as nails, portable (and at 10 lbs each they make a pretty good clubs too)

place them over the rear tires for traction

wallys has arrowhead 2.5 gallon rectangle cube shaped jugs with a on off valve on the bottom . plus don't have to pay the deposit on a flat of bottles at .10 each.they look like they would fit in one of the large military ammo box .bolt to the floor double protection and sturdy.
