Well, OK, I may reservedly concede that a hot dog is a "sandwich."There are claims that the first hot dog was named the Hot Dachshund Sandwich by its creator, but a reporter couldn't remember how to spell Dachshund so he called it a Hot Dog in his article. Frankfurters are not sandwiches, as they are merely the typical sausage used in creating the hot dog sandwich.
Or one could simply argue that it's meat between two buns, which is a sandwich. This dovetails nicely my opinion that a watercress sandwich is not a sandwich. Sadly, Webster's disagrees with me.
Definition of SANDWICH
two or more slices of bread or a split roll having a filling in between; one slice of bread covered with food… See the full definitionwww.merriam-webster.com
I would maintain, though, that a hot dog does indeed meet the criteria "two or more slices of bread or a split roll having a filling in between".
It's a sandwich.
But ain't no way in Hell am I gonna agree that a hot dog is a sammich!!!
