An eight-mile section of the scenic Blue Ridge Parkway in North Carolina is closed after visitors were caught "feeding and attempting to hold a young bear," the National Park Service said in a news release.

Pretty much says it all!

I have no idea who first coined the phrase but, you just can't fix stupid, really does play out over and over.

Obviously these people were not going to be able to get out to Yellowstone NP so thought that Yogi & Boo Boo locally needed their hugs!

Sadly the real solution to this kind of stupidity will never happen. What should happen is morons should be allowed to be killed by animals while its filmed. Then let other see the video. Instead they slap the hand of the morons and kill the critters who learned to not fear humans. So punish the dumb animal instead of the stupid humans. 🤬

Alexx1401 is right on. Stupidity appears to be increasing, but it might just be the same percentage of a growing population. In any event, I remember a John Wayne film where his best lines were, "Life's tough. Tougher if you're stupid...and generally fatal."

What is it with these stupid acts done in national parks?? People act out in a national park like first term enlistment GI's on their first trip outside the country. Or do they just do this stuff all the time and they don't have any bears in their neighborhood?

I usually just visit youtube for firearms vids, so I'm surprised how often I spot vids that encourage or espouse anthropromorphism. It seems likely there are many more of 'em that I haven't noticed. Anyway, I suspect that many of the fools who do stupid things with or around wild animals probably relied on such bullbubblegum videos for their wildlife education.

One example, a mama bear crying and bringing her ailing cub to a kindly ( and all-powerful) human for help. How fortunate that a videographer was there to record the touching scene. Commenters proclaiming it was "AI generated" were outnumbered by idiots expressing sentiments like how sweet it was that mama bear knew where to go for help. Softhearted? No, softheaded.

I've been to a few national parks...and a lot of wilderness areas.
Sure do enjoy being out and about , with a chance of experiencing nature as it actually is...and not idealized.

I also don't understand those folks that interact foolishly with wildlife..
Even your pet dog or cat will let you know when it has had enough.
Why try that with a bear , buffalo or the like ...?

Not saying that one needs to be sacred of or overly worried about bears , buffalo and the like...
However respecting them....giving them their space...
As well as understanding that you are in their house , so to speak ...is wise.

Yep, I had a friend in his late teens and early 20s who would travel by working seasonal jobs and for awhile he spent time at US national parks. I distinctly remember him talking about the stupidity of tourists and how some thought it was a petting zoo with annual gorings as a result.

Kind of reminds me of the guy who got out of his vehicle on safari to approach a pride of lions to film them. Lets just say that didn't work out too well for him.
