Don't forget if you take medications to also have a an extra supply on hand. No knowing when your pharmacy will be back open or when in all the chaos your medical records will be available. Not much use to have all your guns, food supply, water on hand only to die because you ran out of your medications.

@Osarion I recently learned that Snohomish County Executive Dave Somers is a ham-radio operator, has his General license, and personally uses it.

I view this as a good thing, especially if he can help educate and encourage the citizens of Snohomish County to be prepared for the unexpected.

Two weeks is a good start; it's a decent foundation from which to begin being prepared.

People need to realize that the order of response is local assets first. That's your fire department, water department, police, public works, etc. When they are overwhelmed they request next tier resources. These are the County's assets such as sheriff, roads, public works etc. Then they get overwhelmed and they request State resources which can include National Guard and their specialty teams. Once they are exhausted, then and only then, do FEMA resources get requested. Federal level resources come into play only after local, county, and state assets are consumed by the event. Of course in a GIANT event they can demonstrate quickly that those lower tier resources are tasked and get the ball rolling more rapidly IF they have planned well and have tested and exercised those plans (that's a BIG if).

If you want to blame poor disaster response on someone look to your local officials FIRST. They are the ones responsible for planning at the local level. Disaster Preparedness isn't politically sexy so they don't often fund it appropriately and plan it well.
